S’appenin’, name’s Rhys, 32 and do weird sh*t with my throat (oioi), wanna start a blackened hardcore band and incorporating blackgaze/shoegaze, so think Alcest and Deafheaven meets Young And In The Way and more melodic hardcore bands like Defeater, Title Fight, Comeback Kid etc. Want the perfect mix of hard, heavy, edgy sh*t and catchy, atmospheric, hook driven stuff. Blast beats and D-beat, two step parts (I want to be able to step, spinkick, get singalongs going) etc. Maybe some modern grunge/emo/nu metal/doomy type stuff thrown in for flavour. Though I feel I have a creative direction I want to take this, I’m also willing to be pitched and swayed by people who are keen and passionate.
Looking for guitarists with more pedals than friends, Primus-esque bassist with a chunky, deep, full tone, and a drummer with a St Anger snare (as well as a half decent one for the majority, just want a dodgeball snare for effect). Also an ethereal tenor/woman’s range to contrast yet compliment my more baritone speaking voice would be cool too, but also don’t want this to be too busy out the gate, would like to meet similar age and mindset people and get some foundations set before I consider another vocalist.
Wanna write in Welsh as well as English, not a requirement, but if you speak Welsh, class, I have someone to bounce off of, but honestly I just want to challenge myself as a lifelong speaker but not nearly as articulate or verbose as in English and as a lyricist, just looking for passionate for the niche people, you don’t have to meet every single requirement, and I’m pretty flexible about specific genre, just thinking out loud (or on a screen) about how I wanna do things.
Pretty broad array of sounds I can make, I have an old EP for reference but frankly don’t think it reflects on me well as I was 17-20 in my tenure, young, dumb, alcohol, drug and cigarette addled and sourly in love. 3 of 5 songs with vocals are about heartbreak and I wanna distance myself from it if I can lol. Since semi quitting cigarettes I have far better breath control and support, and my range is a lot more polished and consistent. Still rough around the edges but it’ll come with complete abstinence and momentum (for full transparency, I was in a fully formed and fleshed out band for about 6 months recently and parting ways sent me into a bit of a spiral, need focus and something I’m passionate about especially as a skateboarder in the winter months and an outlet for what goes on in my sh*tty brain).
