A vocalist and songwriter seeks guitarist, bassist, drummer, and anything else that you can bring to the table. A keyboard player would be good. I can play guitar (not expertly but proficiently enough) and some bass but would ideally just sing and do some rhythm guitar.
My musical interests are eclectic but some of my favourite artists which definitely serve as inspirations are The Velvet Underground, Bowie, Spacemen 3, Scott Walker, The Shangri-Las, Syd Barrett era Floyd, The Fall, Big Star, ABBA. I've spent the last few years listening to a lot of electronic music (Autechre, aya, Jane Remover, a lot of digicore stuff, particularly things that glitch) and if that is your area of interest then please let me know.
So I guess to sum up, the main inspiration points are glam, proto punk, girl groups, early psych rock, and a fascination with glitch-heavy electronic music.
I'm interested in experimenting and doing something forward but I have a pop sensibility. I think in the innocence of a pop song there's lots of room for subversion. That said, I'm not interested in a typical indie band thing either. And I'm taking this thing seriously, although I promise the wildest of rides.
Must be open-minded and not quick to have their modesty offended. I should add that I'm a trans woman and if that's something that puts you off then I don't want you in the band anyway.
Some things which may serve as visualisers/points of inspiration: Bowie giving Mick Rock's whammy bar 'fellatio', Jim Morrison mumbling through the story of Oedipus Rex during 'The End', 'Pink Flamingos', Arthur Rimbaud, Greer Lankton, Lindsay Kemp, Oscar Wilde...
On a final note I'd like to say that I'm currently living just out of london at the moment in Dorking and Surrey but do not plan on staying here and would ideally commute to London when we get together and find a way to move to the city ASAP. But if you're in Surrey and interested also let me know. Thanks xo
