Greetings guitar players and music lovers.
Back in March 2026 I posted an ad which is reproduced below. It didn’t provide me with the guitar partner I was hoping to find but it did get over 500 views in a short time and it also produced a handful of encouraging messages. I’d still like to find a guitar partner, but I’m also taking this opportunity to shamelessly plug my own services as a guitar teacher.
I’ve taught acoustic, electric and bass guitar for over 30 years, the last 20+ of which have been in Gloucestershire schools, teaching kids from very young to sixth form, from beginners to A level students. At my home I teach people of all ages. My lessons are student-centred: I like to find out what music they’re interested in and steer them towards playing it. Whatever the style, genre, band, artist, there are certain essentials that underpin an understanding of them, which I endeavour to explain, meanwhile dealing with the physical practicalities of fingers on fretboards. The guitar is, in my opinion, the most versatile of instruments. From strumming chords to improvising solos, guitarists can do it; it's my aim to help my students do it to their best of their ability.
Lessons can be weekly, fortnightly, occasionally or one-off. Whatever suits the student. I have a cosy teaching space - aka my kitchen – where there’s a whiteboard, room for amps and music stands and easy access to the kettle. Teaching is informal but efficient. There’s (usually) a free parking space outside my home or nearby. I’m about a 1-minute walk from a bus stop. I have DBS clearance. Two guitars can play any piece of music from any genre. (In the hands of a virtuoso, only one is needed – but I’m no virtuoso). I’m looking for a guitar partner who, ideally, enjoys playing rhythm as much as soloing and lives within easy travelling distance of Gloucester. If you're strictly rhythm - that's cool too. It’s my experience that a guitar duo can pick up some modestly lucrative gigs and not have to pay anyone except themselves. The logistics are simpler than in bigger groups; at the same time, a guitar duo can be the nucleus around which a bigger group forms.
