I use to play in a band called gypsy jazz for 15 years, on bass we turned into a sort of postmodern jukebox style band turning new songs into old school songs such as swing so on using a female singer, we would take a lady gaga song and turn into into a ballad or swing, it would drive people mad, they new the words of the song, but the re styling took them a while to realise what the well known hit was, I would love to put something together with a slightly different lineup than previously used, it was two guitars bass and female vocals, would love to have a piano player, who is competent enough to solo, and possibly put brass lines on keys, also one guitarist also competent in soloing, and female vocals, have a look at Scott Bradley’s postmodern jukebox, it will give you an idea, obviously they are a professional outfit and had numerous musicians, and the incredible Amy rheinheart on vocals.just putting the feelers out if anyone would be interested, long shot I know lol cheers

Hi!

I’ve just come across your post and had to message, as this is EXACTLY the sort of band I’m hoping to put together!

I’m a female vocalist based near Chester and have been wanting to form a vintage jazz/swing band for ages, particularly with that Postmodern Jukebox influence, taking well-known songs and completely reworking them into something old-school.

I absolutely love Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse and that whole vintage jazz sound.

Such a shame we’re so far apart, as it sounds like we’re looking to create almost exactly the same thing! ????

Just thought I’d say hello anyway! And if you happen to know any musicians up this way who might be interested in something similar, I’d love to hear from them.

Best of luck with getting your band together!
