VOCALIST / THEATRE-MAKER SEEKING CREATIVE MUSICIANS – MULTI-GENRE ORIGINAL MUSIC, SWING, JAZZ & CABARET – LONDON
Hello all!
I'm hoping to spread some brightness, and glad if you find this and resonate.
I'm megdavi, a vocalist, theatre-maker and performer looking for musicians to develop my original multi-genre songs, some of which will feature in theatrical performances.
I have around 70 original songs spanning nu-jazz, hip hop, gypsy, big band, rock, world music and cabaret. Sometimes fado meets hip hop meets metal!
I'm also looking for swing and traditional jazz musicians for 1920s-inspired cabaret nights, with the possibility of forming a dedicated vintage jazz ensemble.
I love the conversation and skill of instrumentalists and want to celebrate that, with space for each musician to be heard, rather than everything turned up very loud.
I have potential access to a huge London performance venue (1,600 capacity) for weekday rehearsals and developing performances, workshops and events. Major acts use the venue at weekends.
I'm interested in creating attentive performance experiences, not loud pub gigs with people chatting over the music.
You don't have to cover all the genres. I'll work with different musicians on different songs.
Improvisational ability is important. The way I've sung songs before can change, opening to the psychic inspiration of our formation in the moment. But I can also provide structures, recordings and ideas for the vibe.
Alongside developing the songs, I'd love to involve musicians in my theatrical work. I create performances involving acting, clown, characters and storytelling, and have written shows I'd like to develop collaboratively.
I've spent years travelling and living outside conventional systems, rather than cultivating an online presence.
I have basic recording equipment and access to a professional studio through a friend.
The quality of the people I work with matters enormously. Reliability, good communication, humour, depth, mutual respect and professionalism are more important to me than whether you've previously earned your living through music.
If you enjoy philosophy, humour and imaginative lyrics, we may have plenty to explore together.
Initially, we'll rehearse and experiment, with the intention of developing ticketed performances once the material and arrangements are ready. Rehearsal fees or collaborative arrangements can be discussed individually.
I'm also happy to meet musicians one-to-one initially.
Singers are very welcome too! Many songs have harmonies, and I'd love to develop a regular choir-based session.
Please contact me with a little about yourself, your instruments, musical interests and availability. Recordings or videos are welcome.
If weekends are your main availability, let me know whether you have a rehearsal space we could use.
Looking forward to hearing from you! Best to reply via wassup for my organisation. Cheers
Megdavi
