I am currently the South/West England bassist for Shadowplay, the Hooky-endorsed Joy Division tribute band (there is a separate bassist for band's Northern gigs). While I love playing with Shadowplay and am a huge JD/New Order fan, its fairly infrequent (we generally don't rehearse as we know the material so well) and I would like a second project to keep me busy
My preference is for a late 70s/80s post-punk, goth, Factory Records style originals or tribute band. Think A Certain Ratio, Echo &The Bunnymen, Siouxsie & Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cult, The Cure, Cabaret Voltaire, 23 Skidoo etc.
If that band preferred rehearsing on a weekday, rather than weekend, all the better. Better yet if in SW/W London (Earlsfield Pirate is ideal) but fine to travel to Brixton, Vauxhall etc. Ideally would be rehearsing once every couple of weeks, once material is fully developed, and gigging once or twice a month.
Downsides. I am not a spring chicken (I am old enough to have seen Bauhaus supported by The Birthday Party and A Certain Ratio supporting Throbbing Gristle). Upsides. I am solid, reliable, always turn up to band practices well-prepared, have good gear, transport and a decent amount of time on my hands. I have played all the main small/mid sized London venues (Dublin Castle, Half Moon, 100 Club etc) and gigged in France and Portugal. And, despite being on mature end of age spectrum, I have all my hair and don't look like a Grandad on stage (so I am told)!
