Hi there,
I'm Jake, I'm 25 years old and I am a guitarist, bassist and vocalist (clean and growl/scream). My main metal influences stem from the more dark and despairing sounding bands without going as deep as DSBM. Some examples (but not limited to) include Opeth, Vinterland, My Dying Bride, Dissection, Burzum, Gehenna, etc, and would like to play heavy music that takes you on a cathartic journey for the most part but is not foreign to some more beautiful sounding sections.
I also have an extensive taste of 60s/70s progressive rock, folk, psych and jazz, with a lot of it being more obscure (sorry Genesis and Yes fans, but I don't like them! Every album sounds the same!)
My goal is to connect with other musicians who also have a love for progressive music that connects to that deeper part of you where the stronger emotions like despair, loneliness, lack of belonging, etc, resides. Though most of the bands I've listed are black or blackened style bands, I'm not rock solid firm on the idea of sound yet, just that the emotions that it evokes are the most important thing, though I can see the project at least starting off as a progressive black/death style band. That doesn't mean super technical and proggy for the sake of it.. I'm looking at you dream theater.. but I would hate for songs to revolve around 2 or 3 riffs or sections and to be 2-3 mins long. The journey and the emotions conjured are the key.
The very long term and optimistic objective would be to tour across EU and even potentially the rest of the world, connecting with others deeply through music and have an outlet to express these deeper feelings.
So if you're a somewhat similar age, based in London and would be open to a conversation, send me a private message and get in touch.
Don't be shy if you play a more unconventional to metal instrument, like keys, strings (violin, etc) or anything else that could potentially fit the vibe
I look forward to hearing from you soon
Jake
