Hi all,
We are seeking musicians to collaborate on a quality instrumental psyche/funk/soul/groove originals band, based in south Shropshire.
We have an established 5-piece core - (Drums, Bass, Guitar, Sax/keys & Percussion) and regular rehearsal space sorted and a 10 song set so far. Commitment level is one rehearsal per week (OR eventually 1 gig per week) currently Thurs eve or Sun afternoon, but flexible.
Writers and multi-instrumentalists welcome.
We can make room for anyone that is really into creating this music (think Vulfpeck, Khruangbin, ‘In sound from way out’ by Beastie boys, Delvon Lamarr organ trio, Can, NEU!, Mulutu Astatke, The Sorcerers, and if all that means nothing, think Tarantino soundtracks)
We like to make groove based, head nodding sometimes danceable music, it’s no wedding disco. Moody grooves and dark soundscapes appear more often, though disco/rock elements do break out sometimes.
We have an open space for a dedicated keys/organ player (we use Hammond, Rhodes, Wurli sounds often).
We also want to expand the brass section, Trumpet and Trombone. Open to other roles.
We are all competent and creative, but consider ourselves developing musicians as well, especially within the genre. So a very low ego/entitlement factors here, we’ve all been there. Don’t feel you have to turn up the finished article, if it is a change of direction for you. Sense of rhythm and enthusiasm for the genre is most important.
We’ve been playing together for a few months and worked though a slew of covers, but now have the bones for 5 originals, 5 covers and are working in that direction.
Full time and committed members are the real gold that will tip is over into something good and giggable. Looking forward to hearing.
