We’re a friendly bunch of very experienced, gigging musicians with our own (free) rehearsal space in Harrow. Our set list comprises some of the best soul music of the 60s plus a few carefully-selected songs that are more recent. We all play in other bands so this will never be a band with a heavy gigging schedule but we’ll have no trouble bringing in a paid gig a month, probably two, once we’re up and running again.
We played a handful of gigs last Summer before losing our bassist. You’d think we’d have no trouble at all finding a bass player who wants to play those iconic basslines (Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Al Green, Bill Withers, Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner) but that’s turned out not to be the case.
We’re not looking for a techno-genius who can slap, tap and sweep their way through jaw-dropping solos. We’re not looking for someone who will ‘commit’ and only ever play with this band. We don’t care whether or not you’re a reader (so long as you don’t use a music stand) and we don’t require BVs. You don’t have to be a certain age, colour, sex or shoe size - for what it’s worth we are in our 50s and 60s but we once met some young people and they seemed quite nice.
Boxes you need to tick:
1.You DO love playing soul music;
2.You DO have your own equipment and your own transport;
3.You DO learn iconic basslines before turning up to play the songs;
4.You DO need to be able to get to Harrow for 7pm rehearsals on Thursday evenings.
We’ve had plenty of bassists try out for us in the last few months, some of them claiming that all the above was just fine & perfect for them until the moment they actually started playing. But not one yet who was prepared to (1) learn the songs, (2) actually play those iconic basslines, and (3) turn up for rehearsals. We are all genuinely baffled by this.
If you can’t tick ALL FOUR boxes then please don’t waste our time or yours by getting in touch. If you can tick them all then we’d love to hear from you, the sooner the better.
