Alright DF,
What kinda age range are you looking at? Below is a copy of an ad I posted about a year (I think it gives a pretty accurate account of where I'm at).
'47 year old (Yikes!) Solihull/South Birmingham based bass player looking to ‘get back on the horse’ with an established band (full of like minded musicians). I’m trying to stay away from ‘retirement gigs’ (Weddings, Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs etc), so I’m not really looking for a covers/tribute act……just yet! (Note to self:This sounds a bit twatish, so for the right covers band I may well be willing to give it a go).
Not wishing to sound like a ‘Pro Kit W*nker’, but I’ve got good/pro gear, plenty of pedals that the guitarist(s) will hate Smile & my own transport. Obviously I’ve got a job (to fund my G.A.S……and the mortgage!), but it’s not shift work, so daytime weekday rehearsals are out. I’ve not got any kids (just two overweight cats), so the only commitments I have are the odd weekend away with the wife, and a couple of holidays during the year.
I started playing when I was 13, but I’m no real virtuoso. My favourite players have always been more about tone & songs, rather than technique e.g. Sting (Police era), Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Jeff Ament, Justin Chancellor, Doug Pinnick, Geezer Butler.
I like a wide range of stuff (I know, I know:The usual ‘I’m soooo eclectic cliché), but I’m currently looking for something a bit experimental with post rock/prog leanings. I’m thinking Tool, Soen, Karnivool, Deftones/Palms, Mastodon type would suit me down to the ground. I’m also partial to a bit of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden/Audioslave, AIC, The Foo’s, Fugazi, Helmet, ATDI, Quicksand/Rival Schools, Kings’ X, RATM, QOTSA, CSN&Y, Neil Young, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Kraftwerk, Talk Talk, Ultravox, Rush (bored now ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz). I’m also rediscovering late 70’s/early 80’s new wave stuff, but I’ve always loved The Police from when I was 11 anyway.
Thanks for looking. If you want to give me try, telegram/recorded mail/carrier pigeon/semaphore/smoke signals will work. Failing that, post a reply and I’ll take it from there!
Cheers:Matt
P.S. No shredders, Cheesy 80’s metalers with bright pink Jackson guitars, or anybody who likes Morrisey.'
Listening to your stuff on Soundcloud. Really like it. (I can here QOTSA and Russian Circles with a bit of Pearl Jam)
Anyway, good luck with your search. I'm sure with the quality material you'll find the right people soon.
Matt (Mind Riot)
P.S. Don't worry about coming across as an asshole. Everybody's got one.
