Thanks for your patience whilst you read this post very carefully. I have had a lot of timewasters and ego maniacs!
I am a 46 year old guy with lots of gigging and studio experience seeking a vocalist with an ability to harmonise in a rock and metal genre in the studio. I am writing an album using my home recording facilities.
Following 9 months of work experience as a voluntary producer and engineer in a pro studio in Nottingham, I invested in a digital audio workstation (DAW) with a professional M-Audio 10 input/output sound card (low latency).
I am running Cubase 5 (sequencer), Waves 8 (effects), Wavelab 6 (mastering) and Superior Drummer 2.1 with various kits available (YouTube it - it is the leading package by Toontrack).
I am planning to re-record three songs and write some more. I have not determined the length of the release yet. I am in the process of stripping back the vocals and rhythm guitar and re-recording them on the older songs and coming up with new ideas for new music. Obviously I need your input. There definitely exists an opportunity for you to put your own music down, I will help you paint a canvas so to speak.
On the previous releases the music is okay but I would like improved vocal performances in a more musical/harmony style. The performances lacked life and character in my opinion but I compromised at the time and hired singers with limited talent due to availability.
I have demo's available of the sound I am wanting to achieve on my YouTube channel - but it mainly consists of 3rd and 5th harmonies. In terms of production it would be useful if you would invest in a studio quality vocal mic for recording. I have various other audition mics available but they are more instrument based (SM57, AKG P3 etc.) An eBay special 'Cheap' camcorder would also be useful. At the end of the day it is fruitless me buying a mic that might not suit your voice and tone - but I have mics for audition purposes. Due to this, you may very well wish to demo a mic to suit your voice at a music shop.
This will be my third iTunes and Spotify release having previously recorded with other (not very good) singers and paying for distribution. I have secured excellent reviews and radio play in the past. Despite the lack of gigs, I have always covered my costs and made a small profit on each of my previous releases. With gigs we should secure some good sales and royalties.
As a small demonstration to the sound I am looking to achieve, I have prepared some video using archive footage and just plain audio, they are at:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFbB8WQqswg - The Manufactured Truth - Final Mix
https://youtu.be/vB0fQkZRg4I - Plutonomy - Final Mix
https://youtu.be/0S6aNGdi7lc - All I See - Audition Mix with harmony vocals
https://youtu.be/LkI7ZZOUe3I - The Manufactured Truth - Audition Mix with harmony vocals
The audition mixes are the vocal style and performance I am trying to emulate and only a very rough demos (the guitar was a DI output and the drums were literally one mic in a practice room!).
I have more demo's and previous song MP3's available from my other relases which we will perform live. If your interested then come to mine and have a few beers to listen to the new ideas. I will not share un-copyrighted new material for obvious reasons.
Possibly from there we can use the computer as a backing track (aka Ramstein) or may be form a band. My PC can easily link up to an in-house PA system with a Firewire Mixer - having 8 audio outputs (and two digital), world clock function, midi port, SDIF etc. Have you noticed how many drummers and bassists are required? The poor quality available demand payment or excessive split on royalties.
I am looking for someone local or not fussed about the travel as I cannot commit away from home currently until July 2020 so would spend the intervening months writing and recording. I am undergoing treatment for a medical condition. I have various ideas and now is the time to get involved as I can organise song structures to fit your and our lyrics, vocal melodies and harmonies.
My music is melodic in structure but angry in lyrics so may entertain a combination of screaming and melodic passages - think mid-career In Flames. This would possibly suit a male voice or a female mid-range-voice. I am not a fan of female operatic metal and equally - although a massive Carcass, In Flames and Arch Enemy fan - I do not like constant shouting or screaming in my own music either as it simply does not sit well with promoters and securing gigs but may be willing to do a combination approach as stated - this seems to sit better when securing gigs in my experience.
I would also like the new member to be responsible for on-line promotion such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube (hence the video camcorder) etc
After careful consideration I only want people who are going to stay in a radius of the project for long-standing commitment. I would maybe like another release later with 7 string guitar. I don't mind students provided they will stay committed after graduation. You have been here 3 or 4 years so you know what the local job market is like - right?
In terms of my location I am an hour from Birmingham. Loughborough, Leicester, Grantham, Lincoln, Nottingham, Peterborough, Cambridge and Derby are all within easy reach by car and not even an hour journey time.
Venue requirements of being over 18 and with own transport mandatory - willingness to make a small investment in gear (studio vocal mic/camcorder) and costs also mandatory - an album costs £70 to distribute with no renewal fees and a limitless number of tracks. We would almost certainly need a photo shoot (£70) and an internet site is about £300 to code (if you want one).
No drugs - a few beers is mandatory - of any kind please (weed and coke ruin your voice if you didn't know, and heroin is just a plain killer)!
