I'm a songwriter and singer/guitarist, recording under the name Groundbird, looking to work with more musicians as I go into the studio to record a second album and hopefully pick up some more gigs locally and regionally soon.
I mentioned Bill Callahan in the title to give a sense of the sound - it's coming out of a lo-fi background but I'm interested in moving towards more of a lush, full-band set up with the ability to play in both folky and more alt/indie-rock styles. Other influences range from Jake Thackray to Dinosaur Jr., so quite a broad range of sounds and for that reason it'd be great to work with musicians who are capable of and interested in playing in versatile and varied ways.
You can hear all my stuff so far here - https://groundbird.bandcamp.com/ - including one studio album, Misery Chords, and a few home recorded EPs, mostly solo, which are naturally a bit rough around the edges, but in all cases really foregrounding the lyrics - it's very much a lyric-forward kind of project in the vein of Silver Jews, Mountain Goats, etc. For this next album, we'll be doing more electric-heavy stuff - that's myself and my friend Sam, who's also in a few other local bands, who will be playing lead guitar and synth/keys. So we have those areas broadly covered, but would love to hear from you if you play drums, bass, any folk instruments that might sit in nicely (e.g. fiddle, banjo), or really anything (brass? woodwind??? more synths???) that you can imagine contributing to a slightly off-beat, indie/folk-rock sound with the potential to go to heavier places if we want to!
You can contact me here, on Instagram @groundbirdsings, or on WhatsApp at 07754105529. We are both in our 30s and so probably looking mostly to work with musicians from mid-20s upwards. We both have day jobs, but I'm passionate about this project and want to push it as professionally as possible. Hope to hear from you soon!
