Keyboard player needed for The Full Brazilian - a band playing popular "Latin" music for gigs / festivals / events.
I'm 56, have been playing drums and percussion for more than 40 years. Been teaching both for almost as long. Recently retired from teaching, but itching to do something fun and different.
So far, we are two percussionists, bass, guitar, sax and two female vocalists. We vary in age from 20s to 60s.
Backing vox a bonus. Age unimportant, but must play to a decent standard in order to do justice to the songs.
I've started to make a list of definite possible-maybes, material-wise, including:
Bamboléo - Gipsy Kings .
Corcovado (Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars) - Astrud Gilberto .
Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)
La Bamba - Los Lobos & Gipsy Kings .
Mas Que Nada - Sergio Mendes Brasil 66 .
One Note Samba - Sergio Mendes Brasil 66 .
Oye Como Va - Carlos Santana .
Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones .
Tequila - The Champs .
The Girl From Ipanema - Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz .
Guantanamera - Compay Segundo .
Wave - Frank Sinatra .
At the River - Groove Armada .
Chan Chan - The Buena Vista Social Club .
Dance The Night Away - The Mavericks .
Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing) - Louis Prima .
Samba Pa Ti - Carlos Santana .
Black Magic Woman - Carlos Santana
Hotel California
She's Not There - Carlos Santana
Mambo Number 5 - Lou Bega .
Night And Day - Sergio Mendes .
Ain't No Sunshine - Jose Feliciano .
Light my fire- Jose Feliciano .
Sunny - José Feliciano .
Why - Annie Lennox .
Walking on Broken Glass - Annie Lennox .
Watermelon Man - Herbie Hancock .
Cantaloupe Island - Herbie Hancock .
Basically anything Latin-ish, including clever Latin versions of non-Latin material. Think music for a sunny day.
We will begin rehearsing on 1st August at Parlour Studios, then at least twice a month with a view to gigging as soon as we're ready. I'm sure there are opportunities out there for gigging, especially if we provide something a bit different ie for dance nights, tapas nights, festivals, corporate and family events etc. - the whole idea being to get people dancing and having fun themselves.
I have a YT playlist of all songs and a Google Docs packed with sheet music.
The band will be actively and professionally promoted online, via Facebook, Twitter and a web site. Once rehearsals are underway, promotional clips, photos and track samples will be produced. Currently looking into agencies and possibly representation. Hoping to gig possibly twice a month on average.
We are all pretty laid back, but take the music seriously.
Message me to chat and find out more.
