Hi, I'm looking to start a band where I'd be playing synth. I'm also good at making beats on drum machines if that proves useful.
I'm primarily looking for a vocalist to write with (I'm more of a chords/rhythms/texture-oriented person), but of course if other musicians like the sound of what I'm talking about below and reckon you'd fit, please reach out!
Genre-wise I’m thinking dance-punk/new wave (it'd be great to perform music that makes people wanna move) or perhaps a more ethereal/vibey sort of indie.
So artists like: Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem, Alex G, Sharon Van Etten, Caroline Palochek, Ariel Pink, Weyes Blood, Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metronomy… a couple of more general inspirations are the I Saw The TV Glow soundtrack, DFA Records, and Italo Disco bangers.
Here's a Spotify (booo hiss) playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/07KnEAcpeyUDYFmBXVv3LV?si=YqA6NLkRRZyN8bfU0WB3pA&pi=AyBN8WG6Tm-h9 of that sort of stuff.
In terms of intentions, I wanna write some songs as a duo/band, get them sounding good live, perform them, and have the recording aspect as more of a secondary concern. I.e. capturing what already works live rather than the other way round. I have bedroom-produced a bunch of music before, but I'd rather be having fun jamming. (Not to mention the fact I will probably never be technical enough to know how and when to use compression).
I have examples of my old stuff on Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/danielmears and much more recent reels https://www.instagram.com/danielmears_uk/reels/# on my poorly-curated instagram. In some I’m playing guitar, which I wouldn't discount writing with but don't _really_ plan on performing for this project.
I'm situated in Hoxton, so probably easiest to work with North, East, South East. That said I'm fairly flexible but I do have a full-time non-music job.
If the above sounds like it fits please dm me on instagram @danielmears_uk or reply here, thanks! I would appreciate if you have some musical examples to share even if they are poorly recorded.
