Hello!
My name is Kuba. I've been a songwriter for over 10 years now. I've played in bands over the years, but decided to go solo about 4 years ago. Since then I've experimented with a lot of different ideas, until I finally found my flow and began writing what is slowly becoming a full set of songs. I am at the stage where I want to take my music and expand each concept by bringing in a band.
I am by no means a virtuoso. I have a good sense of rhythm and feel on guitar, but I don't know the chords I'm playing most of the time. Regardless of that, it doesn't seem to limit me artistically.
As the title suggests, the style here is a mix of soul and folk with a dark edge. Think of Chet Baker, Johnny Cash (America IV), Leonard Cohen (You Want it Darker), Love is A Loosing Game by Amy Winehouse and all those slow songs you find somewhere in all the classic albums. I've always found those to be so emotionally touching, and so a lot of my songs tend to have deep and/or dark topics, and often have an emotional core. The only cover I have onboard at the moment is One More Cup Of Coffee by Bob Dylan which I've been playing ever since I started doing open mic nights back in 2016.
I am looking for:
1) a drummer - I'm looking for someone who is able to slow down and use the whole kit to transition the song from section to section, is able to keep time and leave space where it is needed. Although a lot of the songs will be slower and moodier, there are some more dynamic changes across the songs that need a heavier hand to sell the drama.
2) a keyboard player - I'm looking for someone who is able to create an atmosphere and add tasteful fills where necessary. I love keyboard solos (like in Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise) - preferably be familiar with jazz chords since I have a song with a more complex arrangement, and I hope to write more in the future.
3) a bassist - I'm looking for someone who isn't afraid to close their eyes and go with the flow of the music. I believe the bass part, especially in this genre, can really make or break a performance.
4) brass - a saxophone or trumpet player will add an authentic noir experience for the audience. There will be plenty of opportunities to jam over instrumentals and take lead, but I am aware that brass players are rare, and often busy, but I'll dream on regardless. If someone turns up it'll make my day!
*if you can sing it'll definitely help for backup vocals/harmonies
We'd be looking to dress sharp for gigs. Maybe a little gothic, like a bunch of classy vampires or mobsters.
Also it's worth saying, everyone is welcome

Obviously, it's important that you like my writing style, otherwise there's no real point in working together. If you're interested, I would like to meet and jam first as an audition to make sure I like your vibe, and you like mine.
