Hi musicians. For a while I've been thinking of starting a sort of covers project (which is unusual for me, because I normally do mostly originals in previous bands)
The idea started from the desire to learn and play 'songs I like'. With an especial focus on album tracks or lesser known tracks, no Mustang Sally round here!
I think it's more about individual songs, with all the production of the original recordings stripped away, rather than the 'sound' or vibe of the bands or artists that I'm thinking of going for.
I suppose I could just start on my own, but if there were to be others involved, I'd want some degree of musical knowledge/ability- because most of the songs I like have some frickin' weird chords etc! Could develop into gigs/recording/live streams/videos etc, but fun is essential.
So I'd be looking for people with similar taste, because if it became 'songs we like' there would be the danger of a mishmash- I realise it is not very democratic but I think the result would be stronger with a very singular direction. Open to discussion however, because life is not a Sith Empire (we hope) Smile
All this may work as an effective springboard/foundation to interest people in my original music/songs (therein lies the masterplan)
Also, I don't have to be frontman, and it preferably wouldn't be a case of trying to replicate the sound or arrangement of the original versions either.
The kind of thing would be songs potentially from (but not limited to) the following artists (Just a few of my favourites):
Prefab Sprout, Suzanne Vega, Kate Bush, Bowie, Stina Nordenstam, The Cardigans, Prince, Joe Jackson, Clannad, Guillemots, George Harrison, The Divine Comedy.
Also I have an idea for some comedy songs.
I'd prefer to start acoustically/quietly (any instruments/voices considered), like Genesis playing in the garden of Charterhouse in the early years (eating apples out of a hamper) (haha) or around a piano like Tony Banks doing his Beatles songs... really learning the songs from bare bones and to move on from there, going with the flow of where it takes us.
