I've been away from making music for quite a while and would really love to start playing again with some like-minded people.
I was previously in an original indie-folk band, where we wrote and performed our own material. We recorded studio albums and eps and had some BBC Radio exposure / was in Q Magazine, etc.
These days though I'm much more interested in music as a labour of love - playing, writing, experimenting and enjoying making music with other people. No big ambitions or agenda, and no particular focus on gigs.
Although I listen to a really wide range of music running the gamut, from heavy metal, grunge, rock and R&B through to folk, indie folk, old country, bluegrass, blues, shoegaze and country rock. I'm originally from Arkansas in the states however, so my voice tends to lend itself particularly well to folk, bluegrass, old country, blues, country rock (think Neil Young / CCR), but I can also sing shoegaze stuff like Mazzy Star / Cowboy Junkies (both of which my old band, Hoax Funeral, got compared to a lot) / The Sundays, as well as Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Stevie Nicks, etc.
I'm happy playing great covers as well as writing original material - just not necessarily the standard pub-band repertoire!
I'm a singer firstmost, and am just getting back into playing rhythm guitar after a long hiatus, so still shaking the rust off with that. I'd particularly like to meet guitarists, multi-instrumentalists or other instrumentalists who simply miss making music with people. It would be lovely to find people who are musically curious and open-minded, and just see where it goes.
In terms of age range of folks I'm looking for...I'm in my mid-50s, although I have a pretty young outlook and spirit, so I'm thinking roughly 40sā60s - but I'm not at all prescriptive about age. It's really more about finding people on a similar musical wavelength.
I'm based in Peterborough and happy to connect with people across the wider surrounding area - including Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and parts of Northamptonshire, as long as it's realistically close enough for us to get together and play regularly.
I've included links to some of my original music, as well as my old band's music below, so you can get an idea of what I sound like.
