Hi! I'm a vocalist that's looking to form a band, or to join a new band that's still looking for a singer. I'm especially looking for something that's really ambitious and dedicated, with people who want to make great music and pursue it properly.
I'm based in Sheffield, but I'm expanding my search to Manchester. I'm free virtually 24/7 and Manchester is only an hour from me, so really it's completely doable, and not an issue distance-wise.
Read on for all of the relevant info!
--- ABOUT ME ---
My name is Katie. I'm in my mid-20s and I'm based in Sheffield.
I'm a female vocalist, but it's best to think of my sound as an androgynous sound or even slightly male sound, rather than a typically female sound, due to my voice.
I'm into a lot of music, especially alternative genres like indie rock and post-punk, and '80s stuff like new wave. I follow new bands closely and I'm pretty clued up on what the current trends are.
--- MY VOICE ---
I'm purely a vocalist, so I don't play any instruments. I've worked with a vocal coach and have a little bit of experience of recording in a studio, and the feedback I've always received from such people is that I'm a good vocalist with a unique sound. It's often pointed out particularly that I'm very versatile, and that there's a lot of dynamics and expression in my voice.
My range is vast, although my sweet spot is lower in my range, as I'm trans (not that it's obvious or easy to tell, but best to say now). It's best to expect a more androgynous sound than more female singers. I have good vibrato, good enunciation, can hold notes well, can get boomy and loud, can even do the whole opera thing, and I'm able to do most things I might need to do. I sound good alongside guitars and have a pretty adaptable sound. My karaoke songs of choice tend to be Losing My Religion, Take on Me, anything by The Smiths and Total Eclipse of the Heart - take from that what you will!
As well as being a vocalist, I'm also a good lyricist. I have some words written, although I didn't want to write too many full songs until I have people to work with on them. Some of my existing ideas could form the basis of some good singles, though.
--- WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR ---
I'm looking for people that want to make catchy, memorable music with commercial appeal, but that's still alternative/indie in style. It seems like music inspired by 2000s indie is going to be big this decade, as there's already post-punk revival bands breaking through, and I'd love to be a part of that. So maybe driving guitars and big drums - but I also want us to be unique and doing something different, rather than following a crowd! I have a lot of influences and ideas we can play with.
I'm highly ambitious, and I'm looking for a band that shares that. I want to go all-in on it. I'm looking for people with the free time to meet often and do everything that's part of pursuing music, and people that won't sack it off for other things. When the time comes, you should be willing to put it before other stuff, and not fade out of it for the sake of work or a girlfriend or whatever. People that will follow the dream, basically!
