AmateurOrnithologist
(Gateshead)
Friday 27 Feb 2026, 6:47pm
Amateur Ornithologist creates a collage of gothic post-punk, indie folk, chamber pop and art-rock.
We're looking for a saxophonist to join the gang. Someone up for playing live and practicing around once a month.
And if you wanted to be a full-on band member, you could practice weekly and get involved with videos, artwork, photo shoots, and other interesting projects (we've played an underground Halloween gig and a gig with a brass band).
We're releasing a new album in Spring, and looking to build momentum.
- We practice Monday nights in Gateshead
- Our band has a mix of genders, ages and ND people
- We welcome disabled artists, all ethnicities and genders, and people with a similarly open mind
- We're looking for someone around ages 26 to 52, but that's not super important
- We already have lead vocals, viola, cello/sax, keys, guitar, bass and drums
We’ve released 3 albums, played sold-out headline gigs, played festivals, had radio play, and been well-reviewed.
You can hear us at https://amateurornithologist.bandcamp.com and check the vibe/personalities at instagram.com/amateurornithilogist.
We like David Bowie, Talking Heads, Cate le Bon, Kate Bush, Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Field Music, Cocteau Twins, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
We're not looking for anyone who wants to make money or be a star. Everyone in the group supports each other and wants to contribute to the sound, not be the centre of it.
Message if you have any questions.
