Looking to put a covers band together for the love of playing — Medway Kent area.
I'm a rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist. After a lead vocalist, lead guitarist, bass player, and drummer to get something going.
The setup:
Primarily for fun — proper rehearsals, good musicianship, no pressure. I'd be open to the odd gig down the line, but I'm done with the working men's club / pub circuit (did that for years before a 6-year break). If we do gig, it'd be corporate, weddings, private functions — that sort of thing. The material we'd be playing suits that crowd perfectly.
So: happy keeping it purely social, or stepping it up to selective corporate work if everyone's into it.
What I'm into:
Songs with proper melody, strong vocal lines, and tasty clean lead breaks. The common thread isn't era or genre — it's good songs, well played. Think 50s rock & roll, classic country, country-pop, and the more melodic end of 70s/80s.
To give you a flavour:
That'll Be The Day, True Love Ways, Johnny B. Goode, The Wonder of You, You're Sixteen, Country Roads, American Pie, Walk of Life, 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream, Crazy, Ring of Fire, Always On My Mind, Sweet Caroline, Everybody's Talkin', Kingston Town.
If most of those make you smile, we'll probably get on.
What I'm NOT into:
Heavy rock, metal, indie, prog, grunge, or anything muddy and distorted. If your reference points are Sabbath, Maiden or Oasis, we're not going to click — no offence, just not my thing.
Looking for:
Lead vocalist who can handle melodic material with character — Elvis swagger, Buddy Holly charm, Patsy Cline / Dolly Parton warmth. A frontman/woman, not a screamer. Ability to harmonise a big plus.
Lead guitarist — this is the key one. After someone who can play in the style of Scotty Moore, Chet Atkins, Hank Marvin, Mark Knopfler — clean tone, Travis picking, melodic solos with feel. If you've got a Gretsch, a Tele or a Strat and you know what I mean by "thumb and fingers," we'll get on. James Burton and Brian Setzer territory also very welcome.
Bass player who locks in with the drums and serves the song. Upright or electric both fine.
Drummer with a steady pocket and brushwork ability.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, drop me a message and let's have a chat.
