Hootin Annies Big Band is an established 17 piece based in South Manchester, working in the North West and Yorkshire. Repertoire is varied swing/jazz from across the eras. The band has a monthly residency on Sunday afternoons in Sale and takes other gigs as and when. Two or three times a year we host a featured guest artist of national/international standing, often bringing their own charts for the shows. Previous guests have included eg Steve Waterman, Alan Barnes, Clark Tracey, Pete Long, Mark Bassey., Mike Hall.
We are looking, ideally, for an experienced guitarist who reads charts and understands the role of the guitarist in a big band and is adaptable to playing music spanning all eras – From Glen Miller to Gordon Goodwin, via Steely Dan. We’d welcome a less experienced guitarist who is willing to learn and adapt their playing accordingly.
Hootin’ Annies is a friendly but hard-working band who take our music seriously. The band rehearses approximately fortnightly, on Monday evenings in South Manchester. Members prepare their parts prior to rehearsals and shows as necessary.
If you are in it for the money, this band is not for you. Players are paid very occasionally, although the band is self-supporting without needing member subscriptions
Our plan is to offer audition/mutual try out with the band at a Monday night rehearsal. Three charts will be provided in advance, with a couple to sight read on the night.
If you are interested please get in touch with questions and/or some brief details of your experience and, if you have them, links to your music making.
