Hi
I'm Tom, I'm a 29 year old songwriter/composer based in Newcastle, and I'm looking for a drummer and bassist to collaborate on recording an original song in a studio. The project already has a professionally shot music video ready to go, which was filmed in Kielder Forrest. It's around five minutes long and feels more like surreal short film cinema than a typical band performance video.
Musically, I'm aiming for something cinematic with influences from alternative rock and progressive music. Think Radiohead, early Coldplay (Parachutes album era), The National, Muse, and Steven Wilson, while still sounding like its own thing. I've already written the song and made a demo featuring guitars, piano, strings, vocals and electronic textures, but I've deliberately left space for drums and bass because I'd like those parts to be developed collaboratively. I'm looking for musicians who enjoy contributing creatively rather than simply playing pre-written parts.
A bit about me:
I studied composition at uni in Glasgow and I gigged in a band there for a few years too. I've since moved back to the North East. I've been playing guitar for around 20 years, keys for about 10, and I sing my own songs. Last year I made the music for a 30 minute social drama shot in Newcastle and Scotland. The guy who made that film also made this music video.
My hope is that this project actually grows into a new band with like-minded musicians and is the beginning of something really cool. Ideally, you'd be around the same age as me, but that's far less important than being enthusiastic, easy-going, committed and experienced on your instrument.
I'm looking for people who:
1. Enjoy and are open to a wide range of music styles and creative collaboration.
2. Are confident players who like experimenting and contributing ideas.
3. Can commit to rehearsing once a week for around 2–3 hours.
4. Excited about working towards recording, releasing music and hopefully playing live in the future.
I'm pretty sociable so it'd be nice to grab a pint in town. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, you can drop me a line either on here or contact me on 07519605287 (I have WhatsApp) and I'll happily share the demo and the music video so you can get a feel for the project.
Cheers!
