I’m looking to start up a new 5-piece band to focus on playing the music of The Beatles. Yes, I said five.
This will not be a full-on tribute act with wigs and Beatle suits, plus dreadful Scouse accents; nor will this ever be a band with a heavy gigging schedule. If we play half a dozen gigs a year then I’ll be delighted. The aim here is to enjoy playing the greatest back-catalogue in the history of pop music with the occasional gig as a reward and a ‘sharpener’.
The band will be based in NW London. If all members can do daytime rehearsals then that’s what we’ll do; otherwise it will be weekday evenings but avoiding Wednesdays.
As I said, this is not a ‘tribute’ and there will be no assigned John, Paul and George … though you have to have a Ringo. There will be five of us, after all, plus The Beatles were multi-instrumentalists and each played different instruments on some songs, so I’d like to do the same if possible.
I currently play bass with one band and keyboards with another, and I sing either lead (on carefully selected songs!) or harmony BVs. I’m looking for singers and guitarists plus at least one other person who can play bass and one who can play keyboards. The more, the merrier. Oh yes, and a drummer ...
This would be an ideal project for people like me – retired from the day job, busy gigging every weekend with other bands, and really keen to Get Back to playing the music of The Beatles – but I’m not proud, I’ll play in a band alongside anyone so long as they play the right notes in the right order.
Appropriate and/or period-correct instruments are not a requirement, but it’s a great excuse to go out and buy some.
Ain’t nobody going to get rich doing this, and the band will be a ‘slow burn’. If you need the money or you’re impatient to get out there gigging then this project is not for you.
