Hello. My name is Ali and I’m a vocalist in Norwich looking for people to create with. That could be a band, a duo, or a composer who wants a voice to write for. I'm less interested in the format than in finding the right person or people.
I grew up singing instrumentals, so learned how to use my voice as an instrument. Think: Malon singing at Lon Lon Ranch in Ocarina of Time. My ideal to sing for: Music like Yuki Kajiura and Kalafina are closest to my heart, along with Keiichi Okabe's Nier soundtracks. Layered, atmospheric, the voice used as an instrument and often singing in invented language, where the feeling comes through sound rather than words. Utada Hikaru has also been an idol of mine since I was young.
Beyond that I'm genuinely open. I love a lot of things and I'm not precious about genre. If it's interesting and atmospheric, I want to hear it. I love trip hop, electronica, dream pop, shoegaze, indie, rock, metal (although I don't yell or scream), opera, musicals & more.
A bit about me:
• Mezzo-soprano with a soprano extension and a strong high range. American accent.
• I'm a mimic. I use my voice as an instrument, copying instrumental lines and textures, and shift between singing styles rather than having one fixed one.
• I can learn a song in any language if I have a vocal to mimic. So far: Japanese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Polish.
• Previous band experience, so I know how rehearsals and gigs work.
What I'm hoping for:
• Kind, creative people who match my vibe.
• People who want to write together with creative input given to me.
• To be the main singer. I'm open to duets here and there, but lead vocals is what I'm looking for.
• Ideally something newly formed, so we can discover the identity together, but that's my preference rather than a rule. If you're an existing band and it feels like a real fit, still get in touch.
I'm Norwich-based and don't drive, so anything in person needs to be reachable within the city. Very happy to work remotely on files too.
Please get in contact if all of this sounds good, and we can explore whether or not it’s a fit.
