Hi, I’m a drummer, I’m in my 50s, but not a lifelong musician. I’ve been playing casually for 3 or 4 years, I have a kit and transport. So far I’ve been jamming with friends, having some lessons, playing along to stuff at home on my full kit and going to the occasional Open Mic with my Cajon.
Now I’m looking to join a band. I enjoy original material or lesser known / less often played covers. I do not want to play “Cheesy” crowd pleasers. So I'm not up for Mr Brightside, Wonderwall, etc etc. There's loads of good tunes out there without playing the same stuff that almost every other covers band seems to play.
I'm looking for an originals band or a covers band who play lesser known / more obscure stuff. The sort of tracks where people go "what's that?" Or "Wow, I haven't heard that for ages".
My music tastes are varied and include acoustic singer song writers, blues, folk, soul, rhythm and blues, folk rock, indie, and lighter classic rock. Tracks I’m currently practicing for my own enjoyment include, “South Texas Lawman” (James McMurty), “The Distance” (Cake), “Dignity” (Deacon Blue), “Nothing Ever Happens “(Del Amitri) “Power In The Darkness” (Tom Robinson Band) “Maggie’s Farm” (Bob Dylan) and “Somewhere In Oslo (Bailey). I also play tracks by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Soul Asylum, Travis, Brand New Heavies, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cowboy Junkies, and Neil Young amongst others. If you don't know these tracks / artists please look some of them up before replying, it will give you a good idea of what I think I can play.
If its an originals band I’d like to have some input into the creative process, Im not a song writer, but I do want to be able to develop the drum parts, if it’s a covers band I’d like to be able to make a contribution to choosing and developing the set list. I have a full job, and sometimes play cajon with a local trio at open mics, but could find time to rehearse most weeks,
If any of this is of interest to you please get in touch.
