I am looking to start (or join) a collaborative originals project focused on creating and sharing music that we love and enjoy playing. For me, this means:
1. The core sound of the project is up-tempo rock, but is open to influence from other genres and styles. The sound is determined by who we are as musicians and by the songs, not by trying to copy other artists or shoehorn the music into a predetermined commercial genre.
2. The songs address adult themes in lyrically intelligent and musically interesting ways. That said, any idea brought to the table is worth considering.
3. The working style of the band is fundamentally collaborative. Everyone pulls their weight and contributes what they can, both musically and in taking care of band business. Credit and blame are shared equally by everyone.
4. To support #3, each member of the band has the basic capability to play back audio from and record audio to a computer. This way we can work on writing and arranging songs remotely, at our convenience, without having to get the whole band together. (If you don’t know how to do this, it’s not difficult and I can teach you (at no charge), so don’t let this dissuade you from replying.)
5. We are positive and supportive, and we always try to have FUN.
Here’s a bit about me:
1. My primary instrument is bass guitar; I currently play bass in a gigging rock covers band. I can get by on keyboards/synthesizers. I have a decently equipped project studio in the North Cotswolds. I have a master diploma in music production from Point Blank.
2. My musical influences and interests are too broad and varied to list. However, you can hear music from my last originals project here: https://on.soundcloud.com/1iC4u. I wrote, arranged, played, produced, recorded, and mixed everything. I did not do the singing. (FYI, I do not expect that this new project will sound anything like that one.)
3. If it’s important to you, I am a male in my mid-50s. You are who you are, and whatever that might be, that’s okay with me.
4. I would prefer to base the project in or around Cheltenham, but am willing to travel if it makes sense.
I am not necessarily looking for the best or most experienced musicians – it’s equally, if not more, important that you are excited about the project, easy to work with, and diligent. If you think you’d like to give this a go, please PM me here on JoinMyBand or email me at odin5491[at]gmail.com. Let me know what you can contribute (e.g., singer, guitarist, keyboardist, drummer, or something else), provide links to any music you might have online, and anything else you think is relevant. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
