Hey Con!
My name's Ben and I'm the frontman (guitar and lead vocals) for an indie/ alt rock band called 'Veneer'. We've just released our 2nd EP and our overarching goals are to keep writing, recording and performing original songs, with a view towards playing festivals in 2025. We have recently teamed up with the social media agency LMSUK who are guiding us in our social media efforts to help us achieve this. They focus on the promotion side of things whilst we're writing bangers
.
We're a late twenties and early thirties three-piece with bassist/backing vocalist, creative drummer and myself. As you can imagine, the challenge of being a three-piece is performing with a fully textured sound, without it being too 'thin', and having a fourth member would support us a lot. Our music is a lot fuller texturally in our studio tracks than what we can currently create as a three-piece. We own a Roland wav sample pad that does provide playback, but there's no contest between that and a multi-instrumentalist human being.
We would really benefit by having someone who could play synth/keys, guitar and potentially some bass (bonus points for vocals
).
I checked out your portfolio reel, it sounds really well produced you're obviously very talented. Your music vibes and would make our sets more danceable and exciting, which is really what we want to vamp up our live sets. Having an extra head in the arrangement, composition and recording process would also be an asset. Moreover, I would be able to focus more on singing and crowd participation. Our latest EP and single 'Tightrope' was recorded at 'Green Velvet' Studios in Stockport and we've booked in to start our next single in Jan.
Our unique sound formed through the five years we've been together and our many influences. Whilst generally we're under the "indie/alt" umbrella, our role-models are wonderfully diverse. Recently we've been emulating ourselves on 'Bloc Party', 'The Killers', 'Kings of Leon', 'Pegasus Bridge' 'Red Hot Chili Peppers', 'Incubus', to name a few. Also there's 'Ben Howard', 'Bon Iver', 'Thursday', 'Brand New', 'Phoenix', 'Motion City Soundtrack', 'Biffy Clyro', 'Placebo', Britpop and a bit of Grunge. The list goes on...
I also love The Cure and Mac Miller was my lockdown vibe. Professionally I am a guitar tutor and one of my student's Dad's is most likely Ash's biggest fan (there's a Tim Wheeler photo in his living room). In lessons his 8 y/o son and I have started 'Girl from Mars'. Having a Synth-Pop element in 'Veneer' would give us the added dimension we need.
We practice in a lovely little room in Cadishead, run by the local big band every Wednesday usually between 6:00/6:30pm - 9:30/10:00pm and having your own transport would be necessary. We want to have a writing, recording, rehearsal period for the foreseeable future, with a view towards gigging again in Summer 2024.

Our "hit" is 'No Sun No Rain'. The 'Dancing on Dying Planet's' Music Video is also worth a watch.
I'd like to believe we'd all pass the pint test, let us know if you fancy one and we can meet up (preferably one Wednesday evening in Feb/March in Cadishead) and discuss further!
Thank you and happy new year,
Ben
