Hi folks,
Looking for involved and passionate collaborators who share a common vision and political outlook to create some conscious, fun, wild and challenging music. Primarily looking to write, compose, and have low pressure social songwriting sessions outside the rehearsal room rather than any expectations of regular live practice or doing shows (at least til we are very comfortable and very ready!)
I am keen for instrumentalists or artists of any nature to get in touch and work together on new tracks. I have a bunch of very rough demos written to show. I have a range of influences and some types of genres/combination of genres I would be interested in/have been writing around are:
Soft project? pastoral art pop spirital jazz minimalism inspired project. Influences (late) Talk Talk, Steve Reich, Alice Coltrane, Oren Ambarchi, Mathew Halsall, muva of earth, Bohren and Der Club of Gore, The Blue Nile, Arthur Russell, Enya, Lonnie Hollie. Picturing big spacey vocals alongside lots of bells and chimes and nature themes.
Electronic project? influences minimal techno, microsound, breakbeat, sound collage, James Ferarro, f*ck Buttons, Jan Jenlinek, DJ Shadow, The Field, Jon Hopkins. I've been experimenting with nature sounds alongside breakbeats and glitchy effects. I am not a great producer but have ok compositions and am more interested in interesting compositions than polished productions.
Folk project? Lankum, Natural Snow Buildings, Old Blind Dogs, Karine Polwart, Exuma, Grouper Nico. I have some simple folk guitar songs that I would love to build out into more soundscape ideas. Would love to work with poetry and Scots language into this.
Intense project? influences extreme metal, hardcore punk, black/death metal, avant garde metal, grindcore, powerviolence, crust punk, noise, noisecore, brutal prog, mathcore, experimental jazzt, drone. Bands like Gorguts, Mamaleek, Zu, Altar of Plagues, Oranssi Pazuzu, Liturgy, Disclose, Slint, Ben Frost. I'm experimenting with time signatures, noise as instrument, super fast tempos, and lots of dissonance.
Weird rock- spoken word lead experimental rock with twisted guitars, influences from tizita and disco. Influences Mulatu Astatke, Akalé Wubé, Kae Tempest, Gil Scott Heron, Sinead o Brien, Virus (Norway). Would love to make weird music that folk can actually dance to.
Maximalist project- over the top super melodic synth based silly music. Influences Susumu Hirasawa, Lost Horizon, Bal Sagoth, Kishi Bashi, Quantum Fantay. Have some super dense tracks written. Don't expect this one to ever go live, would just like to have a partner to write these with.
Soundtrack project- a silly cosy/epic dungeon synth/dark ambient soundtrack project with horns and synths. Influences Summoning, Mortiis, Salamada, alva noto, Nubuo Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Susumu Yokota. I began to write on this for a based on a poetry series a friend wrote and would like to finish for them.
I'd prefer to only work with people who are lefties and care about politics and social issues in their life and be happy for this to make it into the culture of the project.
Please let me know if anyyyyyy part of this appeals to you. Happy to discuss much further and be spontaneous and open to new opportunities.
Cheers!!
