Hello!
Alex and Becca are looking for brass and woodwind instrumentalists to join a new chamber ensemble based in Manchester.
We are both highly experienced musicians, with backgrounds in classical and contemporary music across a wide variety of genres. We’re looking to establish a mixed wind quintet, with weekly rehearsals in Manchester City Centre.
Current instruments:
Alex – Trumpet
Becca – Clarinet
We are ideally looking for:
1 × Oboe
1 × Bassoon
1 × French Horn / Tenor Horn / Trombone
However, we are very much open to hearing from other instrumentalists who might be interested. The exact instrumentation can be shaped around the players we find.
We’re aiming to play repertoire that challenges and excites us, so the expected standard will be around Grade 6+ / intermediate to advanced, although musical experience and enthusiasm are more important than qualifications.
Arrangements will be tailored to suit the ensemble, and we’re keen to incorporate the musical interests and ideas of everyone involved. We expect to explore repertoire from the late Romantic period through the 20th century and into contemporary music, with a healthy amount of Bach thrown in for good measure.
Some pieces currently on our wish list include:
Rachmaninoff – Prelude in G Minor
Bach – "Little" Fugue in G Minor
Kamen – Quintet
Morricone – Gabriel's Oboe
Debussy – The Girl with the Flaxen Hair
Newman – When Somebody Loved Me
We’re ultimately looking to build a friendly, committed ensemble of strong players who enjoy exploring interesting repertoire and are interested in developing the group together.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please get in touch! Tell us a little about yourself, your instrument and your musical background, and we can take it from there.
