I'm a 31-year-old vocalist and/or guitarist and songwriter, with previous experience in writing, recording and gigging in several bands since I was 14. I'm moving to Canterbury very soon and I'm looking to find the right people to start something exciting from the ground up.
The goal is to build a pop-rock/pop-punk project a huge range of influences, and absolutely no interest in putting ourselves in a box. I'm imagining something that can be loud, energetic, emotional and chaotic one minute, then ridiculously catchy, theatrical, heartfelt or unexpectedly stripped-back the next.
Musically, some of my biggest influences include Waterparks, My Chemical Romance, The Maine, Grayscale, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Mayday Parade, The Wonder Years, Panic! at the Disco, Don Broco, Boston Manor, Bring Me The Horizon and Sleep Token, but I also have a huge love for a wide range of pop music and folk. Iād love to find people with similarly broad tastes who are excited by the idea of a band where almost any influence is worth exploring if it makes the song better.
One track might be packed with massive pop hooks and the kind of choruses you can't get out of your head. Another could lean into pop-punk energy, while another might have folk-inspired song writing, or even the infectious sensibilities of classic pop and boy bands. And when a song needs to get heavier, I'd love to have the freedom to really go for it. There's a chance that could all be in the same song.
I'm looking for all members at this stage. Age, gender and experience level aren't important. What matters most is enthusiasm, creativity, reliability and a genuine passion for making music. Whether you've spent years playing stages or you're still finding your confidence, I'd always much rather find people who are excited to learn, contribute, grow together and have fun together.
I'd also love this to be a project where everyone can comfortably be themselves. The songs and the people making them should have room for different experiences, identities, perspectives and stories. I want to create a band environment that feels open-minded, supportive and creatively fearless. I want it to be somewhere nobody has to fit into outdated expectations. I am trans and queer myself, so I want a space where everyone feels safe.
Most importantly, I'm looking for people who don't just want a casual jam every few months, but who would genuinely love to build something together. I'd like this to develop into a serious project with writing, recording, releasing music and playing gigs, while still remembering that music should be exciting and fun. There should be room to experiment, make mistakes, try ridiculous ideas, laugh at the ones that don't work, and just possibly discover something brilliant because we were willing to take a chance.
If you have a wide-ranging music taste, enjoy jumping between genres, love both a massive pop chorus and a genuinely heavy breakdown, and like the idea of being part of a band that could evolve in unexpected directions, I'd love to hear from you.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, send me a message!
