Hi folks.
Our band, Boxfires, are on the lookout for a keys player/multi-instrumentalist to help us make incredibly loud (but also reasonably coherent noises) a few times a month.
We're a band of thirty-somethings, all of whom spent the best parts of our twenties arsing about respective local DIY punk rock scenes but are now just about starting to get things off the ground again with something a little different. Obviously, we're long past any ideas of world domination, but we're having fun with some reasonably grown-up tunes of an alt-rock persuasion and are pretty much at gigging standard as things stand today. We're just looking for that final piece to really get things to where we want them to be!
There are some demos available here (please excuse the lamentable attempt at home recording): https://boxfires.bandcamp.com/album/demos
You'll notice there are a few extra elements to these songs sort of go beyond the slightly formulaic two-guitars and the truth set-up (not that there's anything wrong with that of course - some of the best music of all time has been crafted that way) but that's really what we want to be able to achieve live too. Whether it's string arrangements, organ or piano where appropriate, or even some songs that may benefit from additional guitar lines too. I guess the point is that we're open to suggestions really depending on what you think you can contribute. Backing vocals would be really helpful too if possible!
Some groups we're partial to (and intended to pique your interest) but we don't necessarily try to emulate: Sugar, Sparks, Cardiacs, Manics, Cheap Trick, Pixies, The Hives, Smashing Pumpkins, Rocket from the Crypt, Big Star, Far, Teenage Fanclub, Super Furry Animals, Superchunk, Failure, Guided by Voices, Hot Water Music, Weezer, Faith No More, Mclusky, Replacements.
We have transport, decent gear and an absolute sackful of tunes both established and on the back burner, so we're very much ready to go. Oh, and also we currently practice in Ardwick, roughly every other Sunday but it's quite flexible.
So if you like the tunes, it sounds like something you might be interested in and you're of a similar age and/or disposition (or even if you're not) please drop me a private message and tell us a bit about yourself.
Cheers
Mike
