Looking for a band or guitarist. Liverpool
Wednesday 28 Dec 2022, 5:44am
Hey there.
My name’s Zac and I’m 34 from Liverpool.
Don’t have high expectations of this website, given the fact I’ve tried several attempts to reach out and connect with others, but I’ll try to not lose too much hope.
Firstly, I’m not a professional singer, so I know there’s always room for improvements. I haven’t had any lessons, but I don’t oppose anything in terms of the future. Whatever I’ve learnt to do with my voice is all self taught - but I do sing a lot of the time at home to different styles. I have bands like Evanescence to thank for the fact I can carry some of my high notes. Not sure I should admit that given that I’m not a female, but it’s all good. 😂
I can’t play another instrument, aside from using my voice. I can’t read music or mix it. So if you’re expecting me to be able to do that, this post isn’t really for you. I know that’s a grey area and there’s stigma around this, though I see it this way: Some people are good at certain stuff, some are not. I know those are not my strong points. I can create melodies in my head and sing out ideas I may have, but from past experiences I am aware that can be complicated or frustrating to some.
I know that some people work in different ways, but if you are the kind of person who can hear the notes a person sings to, then that’s really helpful and I’m happy to work with that. I know some bands prefer to create the music first. I’m open to it; but the challenge for me is then to try and make the words fit. So I guess it works both ways really. I might need assistance, so whether you can sing or not, ideas are welcomed.
Many famous singers can’t play instruments who front bands, so I never let this be a downfall or hold me back and I’m a firm believer that If you truly want something, you have to push yourself and be open to achieve it. Otherwise you will always keep yourself small and believe you are not good enough.
I’m a realist, so I don’t hold my expectations too high. Though, should I ever find myself with the opportunity to release music, or tour. I would not oppose of these things. I would find it a lot more fulfilling and satisfying than jamming in a garage or a bedroom (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
I would definitely say I have drive and ambition and I’m creative in other ways for example: I like song writing and acting. So, I never let stuff I can’t do stand in my way. I haven’t really recorded much of my own…which kind of sucks I know, but given the fact I can’t mix or play an instrument, that’s probably stands to reason.
I did try to learn guitar, but I’m not great with strumming and being born left handed doesn’t help as most people play with their right. I’ve watched guitarist sit down to teach me and have to keep turning their guitar upside down to work out where they are putting their fingers. It’s actually painful to watch, a slow process and doesn’t surprise me to witness them give up within minutes. As for left handed guitarists, well, I don’t see many around unfortunately.
So, as much as I respect that it would be awesome to have a frontman who can also play guitar - I really don’t see myself progressing much in that area. At least not at this stage. Though the chords are not strictly too much an issue, I can never find a nice rhythm with the strumming and it just feels very forced. So preferably, I would prefer to let a real guitarist and bassist do what they do best and to not entertain that idea. No one wants to hear my racket of a failed attempt. 🤣🤣🤣
But as I mentioned - I can write.
I write my own lyrics and have done since the age of 13. Lyrically, I like to write about experiences I face in life, be it life lessons, broken relationships or a need for escapism. Sometimes even a fictional situation or taking inspiration from other peoples problems is something I have done before. I would argue I am very in tune with my emotions and it only takes 1-2 minutes to draft a full sheet of words. I then like to reflect on it and change anything to make it fit or add anything I can give more life or flow to. It’s even refreshing to go back and re-write lyrics taking out parts that I no longer connect to.
While I would like to showcase you some of the songs I have written, I don’t really have anything to share, except this acoustic version of a song called ‘She’d Say’. I’m only really singing backing vocals here though. It’s also not really my style, but I am proud of many of the lines for example ‘thoughts that manifest in the dark’ .

Here’s a few cover songs on my sound cloud (https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/PSEH1UywLq3quGQm9) just singing along to a few instrumentals, I can’t really post much on there due to copyright issues, but
hopefully it gives you a feel of what I can do with my voice.
I do like a band or guitarist with passion and drive, those who are inspiring and deserve to be successful. Preferably, who want to do original material and not just cover songs.
I haven’t really had the right connections or been given much opportunity to work in that direction. People I have jammed with have had no ambition, been lazy, or built up empty promises - for example saying we can hang out and then letting me down.
Not everyone is going to like one distinctive style, band or artist and so I prefer not to list my musical influences, but I do like the pop-rock, metal kind of stuff as you can probably tell by some of the cover songs I put on SoundCloud. Ideally, I am looking to find the right sound that works for everyone though. That is in a bands best interest afterall and I know that may take time to develop.
I don’t currently work as I’ve been recovering from depression, but I’m beginning to feel a lot more myself and so with this in mind; I’m pretty much flexible with time - at least for now.
The only band I’ve really ever had was a college band, but that was performing cover songs. While I’ve nothing against cover songs, I would like work on original material. I believe Music is a powerful thing and can help people to heal for example. To be able to put a message forward to someone and have people feel connected or that they relate to your music is something I would find rewarding.
Though I would argue I have my own distinctive voice, I guess I’m open to trying different styles - I’m not wanting to restrict myself to one set genre or sound. I’m just not able to scream, so this would be where I would have to draw the line.
I’m not expecting anyone in the band to be singers, but I’m not opposed to backing vocals or having more than one singer in a band. Many bands have done this before and granted both singers have a good connection, I know that can also work well.
If you are already a band and have demos, that would be good to listen to. It would be good to get a feel of your musical direction.
I’m not expecting everything to be given to me on a plate and sit back and do nothing - I’d be more than happy to get involved where I possibly can or offer alternative ideas and I am more than happy for you to change some of my lyrics too, granted it improves them or gives them new life.
Anyway, I’m babbling away.
If anything interests you, you want to hang out, have any ideas or you have suggestions- feel free to drop me a message. Who knows where anything could lead to.
Take it easy guys and thanks for reading if you got this far.
