Successful covers band are looking to expand our roster and include a keys player! Covering bits from the 60's through to current charts, from pop to rock to funk to punk.. it's a mixed bag!
Practices...
1 a month, maybe more depending on situation such as new songs, what gigs are coming up etc.. usually mid week in the evening.
Gigs..
Usually averages out to 1/2 a month.. we do it for a crack and fun... not for the money! Usually dotted all over Kent, so ability to travel independently is a must.
Band members...
Aged between 36 to 60, theres humour, banter, smiles.. we all have lives and this is for fun so its not the front and centre but we are there to have a good time, enjoy ourselves and rock a venue!
Gear...
We are passionate about our tone, so we all have ample kit and spent more than enough in this area! Sometimes too much! but it is what it is, right! haha! We run an electric Drum kit through the PA which generally sets our levels for gigs, Bass runs a 5 string through a 600w head and cab, Guitarist can land a space station with his pedal board and runs a 100w head through either a 1x12 or 4x12 cab and singer has lungs that could rival a roar from King Kong.
Ethos...
Keep it simple, remove the stress and play the song and give a performance, after all thats what the crowd want! So we aren't going to worry that this song has a B flat minor 7th with a diminished 9th... we are just going to play the B flat!
Where does Keys fit??..
So.. we've tried it previously and it fell apart due to the addition wanting to be a more prominent sound in the mix, which as mentioned before on some songs will work so naturally it will happen, but on others it doesn't and from our perspective, this fell on deaf ears or the addition not realising that maybe some of the set just wont need something at this point in time (as I said we are happy to fill it with new songs that have more keys involvement).
We do however, have a number of songs that could benefit from keys input to create a wider sound, but for ultimate transparency it would probably be a dusting of keys on a majority. There will be some that need more input.
We don't want to detract from our sound too much but appreciate that everyone needs their place/space, but if you're looking to be front and centre, it probably wont work! There are always opportunities to add new songs which are more keys focused, of course, but initially we would want to focus on the existing set and working that, then looking at new songs.
