Hi
we are Salisbury function & cover band FIRESTAR and we are currently looking for a new keyboard player as our our Keys player is moving to Germany.
We practice in Alderbury Nr Salisbury on a Weds evening 7.30- 10.45pm weekly With everyone learning material at home from the origional tracks, so the songs ready to play through and polish up playing them with the rest of the band at practice
We play a wide variety of dancy chart hits from the 1960 to 2000's + and also recent material. Basically all well know hits that will keep and Audience on the dance floor. The current set list is on our website repertoire page.
The band mainly play functions, weddings and parties and are looking to do 2- 3 gigs a month . We normally go out for anything between £800 - £1500 depending on distance to the gig, finish time etc. I would say the majority of the gigs are an average of £900 with all money split equally between the band.
Just to put you in the picture here's a bit more info on what we're doing .
As far as band gear goes we have a full Bose F1 PA ..so 2x 1k subwoofers 2x 1k Top/mid cabs, 2x Mackie 450 powered monitors. Zoom L20-20x channel digital desk with remote Ipad control and 6x individual stereo IEM /headphone, monitor mix outputs (also ipad controlled.) radio & hardwired mics and an LED light show and 2x smoke machines so equipment wise we are up and ready. I play Rolands Flagship V Drum Kit the pro TD50KV which really helps the bands overall sound.
The L20 mixer having 6x stereo headphone/ monitor outputs means we practice with everyone DI'd into the mixer. So along with the drum sound the guitar, bass, vocals and keys are all fed directly into the L20 desk to create a well balanced main mix and individual monitor mix for everyone. At a gigs only the main mix is fed through to the Bose F1 PA system.
At practices with everything being DI'd into the mixer we monitor what we are playing and practising through our own headphones or In Ear phones rather than through speakers . With the L20's 6x individual monitor mix outputs everyone can also adjust their own mix to suit themselves ( Very useful for turning up what your playing a bit louder in your individual mix) You can do this from the main Ipad mixer app, or if you want to use your own ipad by downloading the free L20 mixer app from the Zoom site, it allows you to connect to the L20 mixer and you then have access to your own individual mix and your overall volume control from your own ipad.
So Di'ing everything is a bit different from practicing in an echoed room with a loud a drum kit , with guitar sounds and vocals reverberating around the place. But it does give us a far more controlled studio type stereo sound, which with a good pair of In Earphones or headphones sounds really clear and easy to listen to and protects your ears.
The key thing is getting decent sounds from the instruments ( for instance with guitars using modelling & effects pedals) before they are input into the desk, and sometimes this Takes a bit of tweaking to get right. but once right we can store the main and individual mixes for the next time we practice
The L20 desk allows us to very easily record a soundcheck song ( or a whole gig) as up to 20 individual tracks in real time can be recoded on the desk at the gig ( or practice) . So for the soundcheck at gigs we simply record a song or two. Then head out front of the PA with the main Ipad and use this to playback the soundcheck track we've just recorded in real time and get a great mix.
If you have any questions at all about the band just get in contact and I'm happy to have a chat about the band or any of this with no obligation to join us if its not fror you. .
