We are (were) a four-piece band that plays Irish, Celtic and Country music, with the current emphasis on the Irish and Celtic music. We play music from the Dubliners, Pogues, Fureys, Clancy Brothers, Runrig, North Sea Gas, the McCalmans and so on. We also play a few Country songs from the likes of The Old Crow Medicine show, Blackberry Smoke etc to break up the mix. The emphasis is on playing good songs in a style and arrangement that suits the band, so that we can make the most of them. We are adding new songs all of the time and have built a catalogue of some 60 plus songs, which is still growing.
We have a lead singer and rhythm guitarist, banjo and mandolin player with backing vocals and a bass guitarist. We also had a further member who played Ukulele, Banjo, Penny Whistle, Cajon and sang.
Alas, this latter member has had a few personal things to deal with recently and has decided that she wants to step down from playing with us and we are going to need someone to take her place. Principally, we used the whistle to play the melody for introductions and instrumental interludes. We could use a fiddle, penny whistle or some other note based instrument to fill the same role. It would also be a help if the new person could sing a bit so that they can take some verses solo and join in with backing singing on choruses.
We practice in Thatcham on a Sunday afternoon and this is loosely based on a fortnightly schedule. We aim to do one and occasionally two gigs a month.
We play at local pubs, clubs and summer (beer) festivals.
We have gigs booked through to March 2018 which the current band member will fulfill, if necessary, so there is a good long opportunity to facilitate a hand-over to someone new.
If you are looking for a band to join and you like this style of music then please get in touch. My name is Jim and my email address is jimforrester@dragonprojects.co.uk.
If you drop me a note with your telephone number I will call you and we can see whether there is enough interest/common ground to progress this.
We are playing at the Newbury Beer Festival at Newbury (Northcroft Fields) on Saturday, 9th September 2017 from around 12:00 noon until 12:45 pm. If anyone is interested in my post and wants to come and hear us before getting in touch, then please come along.
All the best,
Jim
