I'm looking to put together an original band around Leigh-on-Sea/Southend.
I've got a batch of songs ready as a starting point, but I'm not looking for people simply to reproduce my demos. I'd like to find a proper band where everyone brings something to the music and the songs develop once we start playing them together.
I'm an experienced guitarist. Guitar-wise, my influences include Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler, Graham Coxon, John Squire, Jonny Greenwood and Little Barrie. So I'm interested in strong parts, melody, texture etc. rather than endless lead guitar!
I'm also an experienced live singer. I'm happy to sing lead if that's where the band ends up, although my ideal scenario might actually be finding a brilliant lead vocalist and concentrating on guitar plus backing vocals/harmonies.
Bass and drums are the first pieces I'd particularly like to find, but please don't let that stop you getting in touch if you're a guitarist, keyboard player, vocalist or something else entirely and this sounds interesting.
I'd probably aim to rehearse three or four times a month, get a set together, record and play live.
For context, I'm in my 40s. I'm realistic about what starting a new band at this point in life means, but I'm not looking for a nostalgia project or a plodding pub band either. I want to make original music that feels alive, inventive and worth going to see. I'd like the musicianship to be strong, but this isn't about virtuosity for its own sake. Good feel, good ears and good ideas matter more. Any gender welcome.
