Looking to start a band, think Art Rock with Post-Punk leanings.
Hello! Are you interested in joining an inventive, fun, and genre-bending band? Then you should listen to the songs linked below and decide if you want to play this music with a new band I am starting. My name is Chris, I am fairly new to the Portland area and I would like to get out and start playing some music. I've been writing songs for a decent while now and was able to get a band together back in my homestate Arizona before I departed to Portland (attached pics are from my previous band) . So now I would like to bring my music to Oregon and find some great musicians to play with! My music was described by a friend as "Art rock with a Punk ethos" which I think might be the proper mindset to have, and hopefully you can hear what I mean.
Specifically, I am looking for musicians who play guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard, multi-instrumentalists are even better!! I am open to playing with musicians of different styles, versatility in music is great! I believe that I have 9 songs fully finished and a few other song sketches, but I would like to focus on my 9 for now and see where the music goes from there. I also have a truck so transportation and hauling gear would not be a problem.
Many of these compositions feature time signature changes so I would appreciate a working-level knowledge of how to use them. Some of these songs may have strange song structures, which I think it plenty fun but some may be deterred by that style of writing. In order to make the song learning process easier, I took the liberty of tabbing out most of the parts on these songs and would be more than happy to work them out with you one-on-one. Some of my main music influences include: Talking Heads, Pixies, Gang of Four, The Velvet Underground, The Who, Big Star, The Mars Volta, Dead Kennedys, Neil Young, etc, fairly essential stuff but they're the gold-standards for a reason after all. It's obviously fine if you're not a fan of all these acts, but if you tend to dislike most of these bands then this may not be the group for you.
The live recordings are a pretty good indication of what the songs will sound like, albeit with minor tweaking (a few additions here and there, and my vocals were not 100% on all songs at the time of this concerts recording). Also attached are a couple backyard demos I recorded solo.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I am really looking forward to getting this going and I think it is going to be a blast for everybody involved.
