Can you add rhythm, harmony, leads and weirdness to psychedelic space-rock band playing originals and covers in the Bristol area?
Don’t reply yet! 😊 Please have a read through all the guff below and have a think about whether we are the right band for you before replying.
We’re not really after a normal lead guitarist, but someone who can fit in as a musician that happens to play guitar and can play lead when that’s what works best. We currently have bass, drums, a synth player who adds spacey effects and a guitarist/keyboardist who swaps between the instruments playing rhythm and lead as needed.
We’d like to add an additional musician to provide variety and also interesting interplay with the other lead instrumentalist. The idea is that one can play melodic lines whilst the other plays chords, swapping between the two, or they can play twin melodies. We therefore need someone who is quite versatile and has good listening skills.
We play in quite a wide dynamic range so someone who is comfortable with hard-rock electric guitar but who can also play something more restrained in the quieter passages would be ideal
Must have:
• Own, giggable kit!
• An interest in and understanding of psychedelic, space and progressive rock – particularly of the late 1960s and early 70s
• Willingness to contribute as part of a band and not necessarily have guitar solos in every song
• Awareness of what is appropriate volume to maintain the balance of the band
• Some gigging experience
• At least a basic understanding of chords and scales
• Willingness to rehearse regularly (probably every other week) in the Bristol area even on horrible winter nights!
Big plusses would be:
• Acoustic guitar or maybe 12 string
• Own transport
• Ability in glissando guitar
• Some vocal ability
• Ability in another instrument
• Knowledge of music theory
• Interest in writing original music and lyrics
You can probably tell that we’re not looking for the typical rock lead guitarist, but someone a bit more like Steve Hackett or Steve Hillage.
Influences include Gong, Hawkwind, King Crimson, early Pink Floyd, Krautrock and all things related to Space-Rock. We're not looking to go pro, but we're all experience musicians that want to do something different, have fun and get out gigging and recording. Get in touch if you're interested.
