Guitarist 50, still retaining much of own teeth and hair seeks a band to play with once a week for rehearsals and then gigs for fun.
Stuff I like includes 60s Garage heading towards pub rock and more melodic punk. Brother Wayne Kramer and Johnny Thunders are key references.
Like David Coverdale before me, I love the Blues. I try to channel Mike Bloomfield when I can and would love to be in a Chicago Blues band so I can play on the top with some taste. Recently discovered slide, not Allman brothers sweet slide, but Hound Dog Taylor screaming up an open nerve and wanting his wig back slide.
Stuff I don't want to do includes anything by T-Rex, who I still haven't forgiven for chucking Steve Took or Pink Floyd, not keen on complicated things for their own sakes. Where Blues touches Rock is touchy for me too. Trousersnake post Marsden and Moody is kind of where I switch off.
I can sing like Bryan Ferry, but that's an extremely limiting skill. I would rather not sing if I could persuade other people to do the music I like.
I may have some sort of personality disorder or suffer from the Dunning Kruger effect as every band I have ever been with seems to chuck me out for reasons that rarely make any sense. Even the ones I form myself eventually want to go off in a different direction without me and then evaporate away. My favourite bands are actually Hawkwind and Blue Oyster Cult, but that's not the music I want to make.
Not interested in headphone rehearsals or playing through the board. Really don't want to wait until everything is perfect before gigging. Would rather we made it up on the fly and jammed to get back on track when we go wrong, which I think is a skill that is rarer than I would have first thought. Overall I just want to enjoy playing music. My ideal gig would be as the house band at a local venue having a blast and entertaining more than being good at music.
