Gigging bass guitarist wanting to create a rock n roll covers/originals band, Rock n Roll in its broadest sense though. Started late 70s alongside a long career in brass bands as a trombonist. So there is no point naming the famous Manchester musicians in the late 80s onwards, I wasn’t involved in any of that. I played social clubs, sessions pubs, not the more famous clubs in Manchester City centre, unless the ritz was your bag in the 80s, before it became a cool music venue.
Music wise the harder side of rock n roll to Motorhead (my fav band, yes I saw them a few times yes I have snow on top, even worse I can’t stand to play, but working on that, you want to know). Stray Cats Rock n Roll Elvis, Little Richard, Big Mama Thornton. Raw blues, blues with an edge, maybe Joe Walsh guitar style rather than Hendrix, though love that sound as well, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Via, Stevie Windwood.
You get the sort of edge I am looking at, want to be out there bit more niche than what the guys and girls are doing a great job at on the pubs circuit, solid rythymn with great great guitar and a bit there lyrics.
Pluses I have great gear, a pa that works, transport, experience in live and recording situations, some vocals and Backing VOX. I read music to a really good standard including sight reading across Bass and Treble clef. Could even lay down a bit of trombone on tracks maybe some rudimentary keys.
Possible downside, like I say I cannot stand to play, puts nearly everyone one well that’s just how it is. Doesn’t affect my ears or fingers ( Yeap not a guitar convert, bass from day one). My age 61 not bothered about gender age sexuality race, music is for everyone to enjoy, all that interests me is that you enjoy playing making noise, fast and loud and don’t mind trying different ideas, think Iggy, think Ummagumma pink Floyd, think Latin style, metal style think as musically diverse as you want. Let just have a riot and cause chaos in ears of an audience, and be creative.
This is some of the tunes I jammed for myself in Garage band and one studio session with the great Antony Roach and Steve Ogden. Yes there are a few out there tunes, apart from 2 tunes I am destroying the guitar parts playing bass electronic drums by mr Garage Band(TM), all vocals are me. Take a listen. I ain’t like most, no boasting no bugging mysel up, just a crazy old man with a solid bass guitar.
