Hi-diddly-ho, neighbourino.
My name's Rain, I'm a 28yo non-binary singer/guitarist.
I've lived off music for a decade now, mostly busking and cover gigs. Been releasing original music solo for ages, and it's gradually picked up. Sitting on 1000 monthly listeners on Spotify rn (not the biggest numbers, but they're real humans, so they've got that going for them), TikTok has picked me up a few times, and I'm lucky enough to be working with a couple of managers.
Been on the open mic circuit for a while at this point, have small support shows coming up, but desperately want to book my own shows asap.
Not sure if I'm looking for a backing band or to flesh out the project fully, but I miss the camaraderie, and I'd like to stop pretending I know how to write good drum and bass parts. Some vocal ability would be nice for harmonies etc. but is not a hard rule. Bonus points for queer folk and women, but not at all necessary.
The music I'm making now is essentially: Punk ethos, lyrics about the world going to sh*t, gritty, DIY, acoustic vibes, kind of jazzy in the sense that I write with a lot of weird chords, but doesn't actually sound anything like what you'd think of as jazz.
Think somewhere in the Bob Dylan + Nirvana + Rage Against The Machine area and you might be on the right page. Also throw The Beatles in because I'm religiously obsessed, though the influence is probably less obvious if you're not looking for it.
You can find everything I've released + socials at rainmcmey.com
But other than Shady Boys in Fancy Cars, Boomer Baby, and Eliza, most of the stuff I've released already is out of rotation at this point. If you message me I'll send you a bunch of demos of the new stuff that's more in line with what I'm after now, and with what's been working with the audience.
I'm looking for the real deal here, in for keeps rather than looking for a laugh. Let's break a bunch of anarchists into the mainstream again, eh? It's been too long.
Let me know if you're interested!
Thanks for reading the ramble.
