Hi all!
I recently moved to the area and am looking to form a pop-rock covers band, so we’ll be looking at me, a lead guitarist, a bass player, a drummer and either a rhythm guitarist or a keys player. Any gender, nationality, skin colour, sexual orientation and age is welcome. Ability isn’t that important initially as we’ll be well rehearsed by the time it comes to playing gigs, so as long as you’re committed, everyone is welcome.
I’m English but used to live in Scotland and formed a band there with myself as the frontman. I found through experience that the music that always got the punters up dancing and singing along were the mainstream pop-rock/rock and roll hits from the ‘60s to the modern day, so I’m talking the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Beatles, Kinks, Oasis, ABBA, Bay City Rollers, Elvis Presley, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, White Stripes, Black Keys, Blur, T. Rex, Kiss, Los Lobos, Monkees, Clash, Killers, Stereophonics, Kasabian, Kings of Leon, Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Green Day, Queen, Simple Minds, INXS, Primal Scream, U2, Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie, Pulp, Blink 182, Maroon 5, Proclaimers, Bruno Mars, Shaboozey, Avicii, Walk the Moon, Stone Roses, Roy Orbison, Dire Straits, etc.
We all get a say as to what songs we play as long as they’re well known and can be sung along to by everyone, so no obscure stuff at all. If we happen to recruit a female who can also do lead vocals, half of those musicians can be swapped for ones that have female lead vocals.
I have a good vocal range, so can high the high notes as well as the low ones, although if you sing backing vocals, that would be ideal as I pretty much did lead and backing all the time and it takes its toll on the vocal chords.
I can play a few open and barre chords on electric guitar but my strength is by far my vocals. Also, I don’t just stand and sing. I dance around (space permitting) and interact a bit with the customers between songs.
We’ll be looking to play in pubs and clubs, maybe twice a month but we can look at that when we get close to gigging. I’ll be in charge of getting us gigs, so advertising and calling/visiting venues with posters.
We’ll looking to commit to rehearsals at least once a week, so either one weeknight, or one weekend day or evening. I live near Marston Green, so we can rehearse somewhere that’s more or less equidistant for us all.
If this sounds up your street, please drop me a message and we’ll get moving with it!
Thanks,
John
