We are Concrete Prairie, an established folk/Americana/country/roots band seeking a fiddle/violin player. Unfortunately our current fiddler is leaving due to a change in her family and working commitments meaning she can’t make the 2-3 gigs a month or the summer festival seasons we do anymore.
The band is well-loved locally (Wiltshire/Somerset/Bath & Bristol/Swindon etc) and is currently 4 ego-less & reliable guys consisting of drums & keys, bass, guitar, mandolin & harmonica with everyone doing some harmonies and we play with passion & feeling, taking it seriously but most of all having fun and enjoying ourselves. Music is so important to all of us and we believe this is reflected in our energetic performances where upbeat music is balanced with some softer numbers.
As a band we hold diverse influences across the genres so there’ll be good scope for a fiddler to play a range of styles from American to Irish, cinematic to atmospheric minor-key stuff. Not afraid to rock out or strip it right back!
We have played numerous festivals alongside greats of the UK Americana and Folk scene, supported acts such as Mad Dog McRea, Rusty Shackle and Matt Owens (noah & the whale) and recorded our debut album at Real World Studios.
Some new songs are ready to go and while we mostly play originals we do play some in-genre covers and the odd pop classic in that folky/country vein.
I guess it’s always good to get a few names into an ad so some artists we love include: The Waterboys, Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings, The Pogues, Old Crow Medicine Show, Neil Young, Ennio Morricone, Frank Turner, Damien Dempsey, Cherry Ghost, Townes Van Zandt, Whiskeytown, Springsteen, Noble Jacks, Glen Campbell, Lost Dog Street Band, The Coral, Johnny Cash…honestly the list is endless!
If you’re interested, or you know someone who might be, feel free to send an email to concreteprairie@hotmail.com or message us on Instagram/Facebook.
Cheers,
Joe
