We're aiming to put a new band together, featuring both Female and Male lead vocalists, celebrating the greatest era of Soul and Disco through the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Our core set will be drawn from the Motown, Stax and Philly songbooks, together with classic Disco, mainly from the 'Saturday Night Fever' era. We're also aiming to blend in some more modern artists, whose music tips a nod to the classic Soul era.
The female artists we'll be covering include: Martha Reeves, Sister Sledge, Aretha Franklin, The Emotions, The Supremes, Candi Staton and Yvonne Elliman, blended with more contemporary artists including Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, The Noisettes, and The Brand New Heavies. Male vocal artists include: Otis Reading, Marvin Gaye, Eddy Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Wilson Pickett, The Four Tops, The Detroit Emeralds, The Trammps, and The Temptations.
This is a new venture being put together by the founder members of ROADHOUSE (www.roadhousecountry.com) - an established and popular Americana covers band - so we already have good contacts with pub, club and Festival gig bookers in the Bucks/Oxon/Herts area. Our primary goal for this year will be to move more into the functions and party arena, where our type of music is always in demand.
We're looking for a committed and charismatic female vocalist to complete our line up. This is a 'co-front person' role, sharing the limelight with our current male lead vocalist / guitarist. We're aiming to divide lead vocal duties equally between male and female vocals, so we’re looking for someone who’s happy to take the female lead, but also to provide quality harmony vocals during the male lead songs.
The band is not a living for us, but it’s something we love doing and take very seriously. We aim to gig once a month, ramping up during the Summer Festival season. We need someone who’s willing to rehearse regularly, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday evening, or a weekend afternoon. Rehearsals take place in Bledlow Ridge, Bucks, near Chinnor / Princes Risborough.
Age is not an issue for us, but we'd prefer someone who won't make us look any older than we already are!...Ideally, we're looking for someone who has some experience of live performance. Above all, we're after someone who shares our love of this music and can really engage with an audience.
