I’m a 26-year-old keyboardist and songwriter currently living in Mid Devon, looking to have fun with other like-minded sound crafters in the West Country. Let’s collaborate!
Basically: I haven’t been in a band since I was at college nearly ten years ago, and although I’ve released many solo albums and greatly developed my musical/production skills since then, I still long for the thrill of playing and writing with others. With the decade anniversary of those halcyon days coming up, I want to renew that old magic in the present moment and create musical connections that’ll last longer, rather than wallow endlessly in sixth-form nostalgia. (It ain’t healthy folks!)
The music I make today tends to be on the more melodic side of the progressive/psychedelic/experimental spectrum, with the occasional softer or heavier stretch if a song calls for it; there are also bits and pieces of artsy pop, EDM, industrial music, mashups/plunderphonics, jazz fusion, and many other genres. Really though, as long as you share a general propensity towards interesting textures, harmonies and moods, I’m sure we can find some common ground. Beyond that anything goes - I’m open to doing covers, originals, improv jams, or even multimedia projects, and open to working with players of any instrument at any skill level.
Specific musical influences include: Animal Collective (and solo members work), Everything Everything, Scott Walker (mostly the later era), Genesis (all eras!), Yes, Talk Talk, Mr Bungle (not the thrash stuff), Sufjan Stevens, Arca, Ween, The Avalanches, Gazelle Twin, GY!BE, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Parliament, The Beach Boys, Steve Reich, and many more.
To get a sense of how these influences manifest in my music, check out “Cleanup Duty”, my most recent album of original songs: https://mattiekonig.bandcamp.com/album/cleanup-duty
A few other qualities I’d be on the lookout for in a prospective bandmate:
- Aged 20-30 or so - would prefer to make noise with people closer to my own age
- Based in the South West, ideally Devon or Somerset
- Politically left-leaning/LGBT+ ally, as I’m a transgender woman (although that doesn’t mean we’d have to make overtly political music)
- Having your own wheels and space to make some noise would be useful, as I can’t drive and only have a rudimentary recording space at home (it’s not a dealbreaker though, I’m sure we could figure something out if you don’t)
