Are you a capable and enthusiastic electric guitarist looking for a new casual musical escape? Do you have a passion for crowd-pleasing rock & pop and a desire to jam, play for fun, occasionally gig and generally enjoy having a laugh with some like-minded musicians? If so – read on…
Cunning Plan is an amateur jam band made up of averagely experienced musical enthusiasts that play mostly for musical enjoyment and fun, with the occasional informal gig to add to the adventure. It is a Guildford based band, made up of a bunch of middle-aged working professionals, in a crew comprising a female vocalist, electric guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboardist; all out to jam, occasionally gig, enjoy being in a casual band and playing fun music, having a good laugh and generally not taking band-life over seriously.
The band now requires a replacement lead guitarist due to their moving away for family reasons. The band, brought together after COVID, has established an initial playlist set of ~20 popular and well recognised pop/rock cover crowd-pleasers from Robbie Williams through Keane, Snow Patrol, Amy Winehouse, Oasis and others plus some well recognised older crowd-pullers including from Bryon Adams, Steppenwolf and Wild Cherry; but a list we are always keen to expand. We typically get together and practice 2 – 3 times a month at a Guildford rehearsal studio, Sunday evenings mostly, although we can flex especially for pre-gig practice.
You will as a guitarist you have 5+ years of experience playing electric lead guitar, familiar with a variety of musical styles including for e.g. pop, rock, punk rock / alternative rock etc. You’ll have the ability to read music or follow chord charts. You’ll be very confident on the frets and keen to push to the guitar boundaries. You’ll have a good ear for a melody and be comfortable playing solos and riffs, be able to think and play on the fly with the band.
We are a casual band, so you’ll be a good team player, with a relaxed attitude and a willingness to take a few risks and try new things, happy to pick-up on where we have got to and help the band progress, able contribute and develop the overall sound of the band and help the band grow to the ‘next level’ in 2025. You’ll have your own transportation and ability to commit to routine rehearsals and occasional gigs.
What we offer is to be a part of a non-stressed casual and easy-going band out to enjoy good music, playing together and having fun, offering a social outlet and having a good laugh. Regular but not obsessive practice sessions at an established rehearsal studio in Guildford (small fee per use) and occasional opportunities to play gigs.
What we’d like if you're a talented and adventurous electric guitarist from around the Guildford area with good SOH looking for a new casual musical outlet, is to hear from you. So please come back to us with a brief introduction to yourself, a description of your musical experience and style and interests, a brief demo or video showcasing your playing abilities and your contact information, including email and a phone number.
