I'm going to write an essay cos sh*t's important but there'll be a TL;DR at the end.
I've been playing bass for 13 years now and like to think I've established an exceptional knowledge of it. Technically I wouldn't class myself as exceptional, I can't write Flea style riffs or whatever. I play more to my own style which is quite minimalist, doing what is best for the song rather than my own ego. I have strong natural timing which is a plus too, you know, for a rhythm section member.
I've been in bands that have achieved levels of success in the past and thus have festival experience, tons of gigging experience, studio experience, etc.
Influences - I try to keep my music tastes as broad as possible. I'm as far from musically snobby as you can get. In truth, some of my favourite basslines or bassists are chart music stuff. I know the bassline to every Taylor Swift song, for example. I still live in the happy afterglow of Jamareo Artis (bassist for Bruno Mars) tweeting me once. I think it's important to listen to as much of everything as possible, take influences from all of it, and form your own style accordingly.
My favourite bands though are The National, Bloc Party, Frightened Rabbit, Manchester Orchestra, Sigur Ros, The Cure, Placebo, etc etc. But I also spend copious amounts of time listening to Childish Gambino, Chvrches, Grimes, Public Service Broadcasting, 80s music as a whole. Shoegaze. Whatever you get the point.
I'm looking for a band with similar sort of influences and attitudes to music. Frankly, I'm just looking for cool and talented people to make music with. To have fun with. Preferably, and it's a strong preference, people within a few years of my age though. Sort of 20-28. Happy to play any brand of indie or whatever. Poppy stuff, electronic stuff, shoegaze, whatever. As long as it inspires me as I play it.
Equipment I come with:
Fender Precision Deluxe (Active)
Fender Precision (Passive)
Homemade frankenstein Squier Jaguar with Bronco neck
Boss ME-50B multi-effects bass pedal
MicroKorg synth
Equipment I lack:
Touring/Practice amp of any description
TL;DR Been playing bass a while, I like music, I want to make music, but preferably not if you're younger than the nintendo 64 or older than the invention of colour TV. Hmu.
