Since forming in 2013 we (Puppet Rebellion) have established ourselves as one of the top bands currently on the Manchester indie circuit.
We have been on several UK tours over the last two years focussing predominantly on the major music cities of Manchester, London, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow.
Highlights of our live shows to date include:
Support slots with Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Sherlocks, and a recent sold out show at 02 Ritz Manchester supporting The Slow Readers Club. Next year we will be adding dates across Europe to our next tour.
Festival Appearances to date include: Kendal Calling, Tramlines, Dot to Dot, Ramsbottom, Blackthorn.
On November 17th we will be releasing our debut album 'Chemical Friends' produced by Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, Ocean Colour Scene).
Our musical influences include: Bloc Party, Interpol, Editors, Kasabian and Foals amongst many others but you can hear our style for yourself online.
We have a very strong online following and presence as exemplified on our Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
We are an ambitious band who are serious about progressing as far as we can within the industry.
Due to one of our guitarists imminently moving to Berlin we are seeking a replacement to join the band ASAP.
We are looking for someone with the right attitude and work ethic to put in the time and effort to help us keep moving in the right direction.
Essential qualities:
1. Songwriting
We need someone who is a strong songwriter. We have three main writers in the band at the moment (one of which is leaving) who can all write everything i.e. vocals, guitar, drums. As opposed to one person writing all the guitars one person writing all the vocals etc. So we are looking for someone who is a strong independent songwriter, but also someone who has experience and skill in developing other people's ideas.
We are also very critical during the writing phase and none of us are precious about any of our own ideas. We go with whatever we think is best for the song. So if you are uncomfortable with criticism or precious about not changing anything you've written, then this might not be the best band for you.
2. Personality/Work Ethic/ Motivation
Apologies in advance but I'm going to really labour the point here because this is something that has caused us a great amount of unnecessary stress over the years and has led to several people in the past being kicked out of the band!
We are looking for a someone who is very self motivated and pro-active. If you are someone that just wants to write songs and turn up to gigs and rehearsals (the fun stuff!) then this is not going to be the right band for you. We have progressed to the level we are currently at by spending literally hundreds of hours doing things that are not fun at all. e.g. running social media, band accounts, merchandise, making and using various databases and many other tedious admin tasks. The long of short of this is, in order to succeed you have to do lots of things you really don't want to do when you're already knackered after a full day working.
If you are not someone that is very self motivated, organised and has a real hunger to succeed, then this is not the right band for you! We need someone who is organised, punctual, works off their own initiative, contributes to the process of running the band etc etc!
Also if you are someone that says all the right things when questioned or asked to do something, but then goes away and does nothing, or takes two weeks to get a very basic job done, or needs reminding of what you agreed to do in the first place, then you will get found out very quickly!
Other things we are looking for include:
Someone who lives within 30 minutes of Manchester city centre
Someone who is comfortable playing both rhythm and lead guitar
Someone with a strong live stage presence
Someone who already has experience within serious bands
Someone who is able to make themselves available to rehearse, gig, record whenever necessary
Someone who can do live backing vocals
Someone who has a good understanding of music production
Someone who has some kind of home recording set-up in order to work on songs remotely
Ideal age range 22-32
