Hey there.
I’m the frontman of the band Vespertines. We’ve been on the Manchester music scene for about two years now, amassing a good network of connections and a small following that grows with every show. At this stage, most of the gigs we do are either headliners or main support slots, meaning we are often on late, but sound checking early.
We are a four-piece indie/alt rock outfit, inspired massively by The Strokes, early Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Muse, Bjork, Suede, and many others. We never aim to copy one sound for every song, and instead focus on building songs for their own individual merit. This has led to us having a diverse catalogue, of which we currently gig about 16. We would need to get you familiar with these 16 first, and will value your creative input to them despite their drum parts already existing.

Unfortunately, due to university and other life commitments, as well as a lack of availability over summer, our current drummer will be parting ways with us after our next gig. He will still be coming to all our gigs and getting drunk with us I imagine, he can just no longer commit to everything else.

We need somebody who has a burning passion for music, and wants to make a life for themselves out of it. We all want to take this band as far as it can go, and we believe it can go all the way. We’ve made significant investment in this band already, it is unlikely to slow down until we sign with a record label. We have spoken to a few, and expect to be signed by sometime next year, but until then, shooting music videos, recording new music, mixing and mastering and promotional campaigns will all be done out of our own pocket. We need someone who can split the cost of everything evenly four ways.
Skill wise, we need somebody who is both incredibly talented, and creative on the kit, and can play in a variety of time-signatures, as well as effectively incorporate syncopation when necessary. We’d also like for you to be comfortable voicing your opinion on songs, as well as bringing your own ideas forwards. Experience and industry knowledge are not necessary, but always appreciated.
Age is not an important factor, but I will mention that we are all below 25 currently, and very ambitious. What is important is that you can commit to weekly rehearsals and regular gigs, as well as reliably bring a few heads to every show. We don’t rehearse every week unless we have a gig coming up, but we need someone who can adapt their schedule, sometimes on short notice. Manchester based is preferred, but not necessary so long as you can always make it to rehearsals and gigs on time. We are very much looking for someone who will be in this for the long-haul, all the way to success.
As far as gear is concerned, your own breakables are a must, and it will be highly ideal if you have a full kit too, due to our responsibilities as headliners now.
We also love a drink, and go out pretty often. That’s not a requirement, just a warning in case it’s not your scene!
