We’re looking for a drummer to rehearse 2-3 times a month leading into recording this autumn and gigging late autumn and on.
We are vocals/guitars/bass. All originals.
We will have keys and sax joining on an ad hoc basis.
This is a fun/hobby project but with decent ambition - brilliant fun (so far!).
Bit of a story, but if you are flexible on time (except your drumming where timing might help) then read on and do come along and have a natter.
We (three of us) were part of a regular gigging soul/pop band in the early/mid 1980s. We were rehearsing twice a week and gigging at least once a week with regular radio airplay on London stations. We had all previously played in rock and mod bands which has probably helped mix up our songs.
That gives us a distinct vintage (OK we are all in our 60s)!!!
Work, family life, etc. took us apart for some 40 years (!) until a mutual friend got a couple of us together over a beer at the end of last year.
Since the beginning of the year we have been collaborating on new material. We now have 7-8 songs. Hard to describe the exact genre but very guitar based, quite chilled, songs with narrative vocals.
Off the top of my head, influences would include: Incognito, Style Council, Alice Cooper, Teardrop Explodes, Maze, Light of the World, Buzzcocks, Wishbone Ash, Real Estate, etc. So chuck that lot in a box
- it is very eclectic but the songs are really good and will need versatility in drumming style.
Two of us are based near Berko/Tring (Herts) and one in Brighton. So we tend to practice in Berko, London or Brighton. Usually afternoons with the odd pint afterwards.
We are not ‘musos’ (sorry) - we can definitely play but want to have fun with this project and not make it too serious.
It’s not a full time band - more a collaboration so you can drop in/out.
We generally meet up afternoons (all retired). London (usually Storm by Holloway), Brighton (Under the Bridge) or a studio in Berko.
If you’re interested then do give me a shout. Catch up for a coffee or a beer first as we are 100% about getting on as a group.
Look forward to hearing back!
